+IVxIV
The last post in a locked thread typically details the reason it was locked. Was it not in the case of the thread(s) you're curious about? Quote Link to comment

No, this is not a Premium Feature. As the Original Poster you have the ability to Lock your own thread. You might do this because your question was answered. Or the thread has strayed Off Topic, with little hope of coming back. Or just because. On the other hand, Administrators and Moderators can Lock any thread. Many times it is a Duplicate Post. Or a Test Post in the Regular Forums, instead of the Testing Area. And there's that Off Topic problem again. Or Inappropriate Messages or Guidline Violations. There can be a lot of reasons. +carleenp
The originator of a thread can lock it and might do so for a wide variety of reasons. Sometimes a moderator will lock a thread. Normally when a moderator does it, they will state why. Quote Link to comment
+Sputnik 57
Although the OP can lock the thread he or she started any time (see the lower left corner of the page), I prefer that people who post questions NOT lock them when they get an answer. Often, someone else has a different take, or wants to add more info for others reading the thread. If you lock it, that's it. I would rather see posts that ask questions just drift off the page when done. On the other hand, if the thread turns into a flame war, or drifts of topic, I think the OP should feel welcome to lock it (or a Mod will). Quote Link to comment
