Downloading An Tb Image Gallery

Peter Scholtz from South Africa early in 2001 used a spider crawler to harvest pictures from the Geocaching.com site for use with an online version of a screen saver. Although that was in a time when the URL for the photos in the cache logs looked like geocaching.com/cache_log/image/13459_200.jpg or something like that. The next image uploaded to the cache was 13459_300.jpg, etc. So the system made it easy for an automated system to try out urls and if they matched an actual picture, turn it back to the querying computer and have it display the picture.

Can you imagine what would happen to server response if there were such an animal out there today with so many cachers? eek.gif

I'm just brainstorming here...

If Groundspeak, Inc. were to take the images that they choose for display on the header page and somehow flag them... Then they could (most likely for premium members) make a downloadable file once each month of the couple hundred pictures they choose to rotate in... and make that a monthly "goodie" available for importing to some authorized screensaver program... and have the program also display the coordinates associated with either the log or cache, the TB name (and TBxxxx), the cache ID (GCxxxx) and name... there's an interesting thought...
