Texas Benchmarks

Unless someone else has already done it, here's one way to come up with a list:

1. Go to the NGS website.

2. Click on ARCHIVED DATASHEETS.

3. Click on YEARLY_ARCHIVES

4, Select Texas, and click on GET MISC FILES.

5. Select Master1, choose format (zipped or not), and click on DOWNLOAD FILE

The resulting document will have all the Texas benchmarks listed, one per line, in a spreadsheet-like format, but without any headers. Mostly it's pretty obvious. You'll probably want to import this into your favorite spreadsheet program. (May I recommend the FREE, open source office suite, OpenOffice.org?)

The fields are PID, Designation, Lat and Long (DD MM SS.S), horiz and vert order, and finally the name of the county file in which you can find the datasheet.

To retrieve the county file, go back to step 4 and click instead on GET COUNTY ARCHIVES, and select and download the county countaining the benchmark(s) you're interested in.

Hope this helps. Texas has about 48,000 benchmarks listed. Happy hunting!
