+Canyonman44
Hi All, Still consider myself new I guess, more than 50 less than 100,so heres my question. All things being equal about 80% of the time I wind up approaching a cache from the most difficult side. Admittedly I don't use a topo (know how from military but this is for fun!), have both types of GPSrs and they usually agree more or less, So am I just lucky or what?? Still enjoy this alot! But sometimes I would like to post an easy one. Quote Link to comment
+New England n00b
Hehehe, maps are really useful. Often times, it seems like leaving the trail is best way to go, but it usually is not. That's my big hard learned lesson. I now stick to the trail until I am within 50-60', then I'll start paying attention to the woods about where the cache SHOULD be for the find. Once I think I got it, I'll go check. /In theory Quote Link to comment
+soreyes
The 'For Online Maps' links on the cache pages can be really helpful for scoping the area out before going on a hunt. Expecially helpful are the TopoZone and the TerraServer. If it looks really tricky, print out the TopZone map and pring it with. Quote Link to comment
+NightPilot
USAPhotomaps is great for figuring out the best way to approach a cache. You can use it to import the .gpx files and show the caches on aerial photos or topo maps. Still, you'll still wind up trying to get to the cache from the wrong direction now and then. Generally, if it looks like heavy bushwhacking is required, it's a good idea to look for another way to get there, because cache hiders don't want to lug the cache through heavy brush and briars, so they go in by an easy route if possible.
