+AuntieWeasel
Hm. You had an earlier thread, right? Presumably someone told you to check that you got the right port, probably COM 1...? Ummm...is it a Garmin? If it is, it has to be in Garmin mode to download waypoints, but NMEA mode to track in real time. That's in setup >> interface, I think. I don't know if other units have an equivalent issue. That's all I can think of. Quote Link to comment
Midnight Rider
Ensure you are on COM 1 and that your baud rates match. Quote Link to comment
+Sputnik 57
Make sure nothing else (like a palm hot-sync cradle) is plugged in. In some cases, they interfere with the software finding your GPSr Quote Link to comment
+AuntieWeasel
Hey, I forgot that one! You have to disable Hotsync Manager, too. Quote Link to comment
+NightPilot
You should only have to disable the serial hotsync portion of hotsync manager. It works fine for me with just the USB sync checked. If anything is using the serial port, you can't get through it. Quote Link to comment
+TankerandDevious
ok I dont have a hot sync and I have it in comport 1 but it says its not getting any data and it is in NMEA Edited November 3, 2004 by Tanker&Devious Quote Link to comment

+TotemLake
You sound like you are running into an OS/hardware control conflict. The OS wants to manage everything, but there are BIOS settings that can conflict with the OS. You will need to check your BIOS to ensure your Ports are set to Auto or something similar. If you don't have an automatic setting, make sure your setting is at a speed that is equal to or greater than your GPS receiver's setting. If that is ok, then go to your Device Manager and check the port setting there for the Com port you are hooked into (typically COM 1), and ensure the port speed is set to a speed that is equal to or higher than the GPS receiver's setting. +NightPilot
To transfer any data, be it waypoints, tracks, maps, or what have you, the GPS needs to set to Garmin protocol. NMEA is only for talking to mapping programs to send position data via NMEA sentences. For what you want to do, it has to be set to Garmin interface. Quote Link to comment
+TankerandDevious
GSAK says I only have com port 3 Quote Link to comment
