Guest TeamNova
If the GPS hasn't been used for awhile it may be necessary to wait 10-15 minutes before it will recognize where it is. You really don't need to set anything. Install fresh batteries and head outdoors. Make sure the GPS can "see" the sky. If you don't have a manual for your GPS, you will probably want to get from the manufacturer. Hope this helps. Quote Link to comment
Guest zilla
Try going to www.topozone.com. you can find your town and then the co-ords for your home, or get close. You can also just turn your GPS on , set it outside with a clear view of the sky (which you will have to do anyhow)and wait for it to initiate on it's own. Just be sure to set the correct time and date first, or your unit will never find the satalites(sp??).. This should get you close though, Sacamento CA 38°34'55"N 121°29'39"W [This message has been edited by zilla (edited 05 August 2001).] Quote Link to comment
Guest cache_ninja
if when you initialize it, you set it to a town near you, it'll find you faster. but even if you dont, it might only take 10 min or so to find your spot. topozone.com is good to search around, but keep in mind its not in WGS84 datum, which is what this url uses etc, and you dont really need to find your exact coordinates when you set it/initialize it, it'll find you.
