cruiserman74
I was wondering what you are supposed to do to set you altitude when you get to a bench mark? Are you supposed to lay the unit flat on top of the mark, or stand it up so the antenna is in the air? pleas any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks Cruiserman74 Quote Link to comment
CallawayMT
It really does not matter what you do, your GPS elevation is generally not very accurate. A handheld GPS is usually within 20-50 ft. of true elevation sometimes it can be even closer, but just by luck. In other words use the elevation given on the NGS data sheet, if it is a vertical benchmark. Regards, CallawayMT Quote Link to comment
+happycycler
Even if you are setting the altimeter (in a GPS which has an altimeter) it would probably make no difference. The altimeter will not be that accurate either -- but probably better than the GPS altitude (especially when you have recently set it at a know elevation, such as a benchmark). Quote Link to comment
