Guest jeremy Posted October 3, 2001 Posted October 3, 2001 Greetings folks: I'm playing with the idea of doing a trek across the US early November, and meeting up with as many geocachers and visiting as many geocaches as I can. It'll probably be around two weeks long and if I go through with it, I'll update my travels online in near real time. What do you folks think? Anyone willing to put me up for a night in your area? Would this work? It would certainly be interesting. I'll be bringing along a video camera and interviewing geocachers in different states, and filming different cache hunts. If I can find a film editor I could also send daily tapes to be streamed online every few days. Maybe I'll make myself a Travel Bug too. It would be fun since most times you see someone do treks in far off places online, not in your own backyard. Jeremy Quote

I have a friend who is a cameraman for our local FOX news affilliate and I'm sure I could convince him to tag along with you on your travels in this area. We have a spare room (as long as you don't mind the Mickey Mouse Theme), and my work schedule is flexible enough that I could, (or could not... depending on your preference), be available to accompany you on your cache hunts. I've done 2300 miles in 5 days and that was pretty tough with 2 drivers. Perhaps I'll have to do a West coast around to Texas and turn back for the first two, and come back to do the upper in the Spring. Jeremy Quote

In 2000, I flew out to DC and drove back across to California along the southern parts of the states. I was with two girlfriends in a shiny new mustang and it took us 8 days driving anywhere from 5-8 hours per day. April, of this year, I flew out to Boston and drove back to California, once again along the southern route. This time we (boyfriend and I) took it in 9 days, although I would have like to have gone a *little* slower. Both trips were absolutely beautiful, and I both times picked the southern route, because I was traveling in the spring and wanted to have the best weather possiable. Actually, both trips were in April of those years. Hmm..maybe it's time to plan next years trip.... Quote

There's actually a mileage sign in Wilmington saying as much. I remember as a child riding in the back of a station wagon from Wilmington to LA in the days before the interstate connected both oceans and we took a two week vacation, stopping along the way. It can be done, it just depends on how long you are willing to devote to driving, etc. Quote

We are in the initial planning stages for a geocachers' picnic and were thinking of Nov. 3, although that is preliminary. My current home would not work as my second bedroom is used for the baby, computers, etc. But if you delay until spring maybe we could put you up then.
