am i doing the math right44.0161 degerees =34 degrees 8 min 9.45 seconds. when i did the math and got that anwser i was 25 miles northeast of the cords i startedat please help. math not my deal.

Hi.

 

Take 12.3456 as an example.

 

1. Subtract the whole part (12). This is the degrees value.

2. Multiply the remainder by 60. 0.3456*60 = 20.736. The whole part is the minutes value (20).

3. Multiply the remainder by 60. 0.736*60 = 44.16. This is the seconds value.

 

So 12.3456 translates to 12d 20m 44.16s.

True, but our standard is degrees and minutes with decimals, not degrees, minutes and seconds. So using your example above, the final answer for Geocaching Purposes would stop after #2: 12° 20.736 - the original coordinates in this post would be 44° 00.966.
