Guest mudbug65 Posted August 27, 2001 Posted August 27, 2001 I was thinking about possible activities for geocaching meetings/events and remembered something we used to do during group ATV outings. We called it "4 Wheel Drive Poker". We'd take up an entry fee from each person and put that up for grabs. Then we'd take 1 deck of cards for each 7 persons and staple them FACE DOWN to 7 pieces of plywood and distribute the plywood throughout our trail, creating 7 checkpoints. At each checkpoint you'd stop, pull 1 card off and put it in your pocket. After completing the course and stopping at each checkpoint, you'd have 7 cards, 2 of which you'd discard. (just like stud poker) Back at the trailhead we'd gather up and check to see who had the best poker hand and that person would win the money. This same concept could be carried over to GPS usage. Each checkpoint would become a waypoint and prizes could be given out instead of/in addition to money. It wouldn't matter which order the waypoints were visited, so each group or entrant could start off in a different direction and thus avoid crowding. Of course this game depends heavily on the honor system, but geocachers are an honest bunch, right?? (cough cough) uh... and after everything is over & done, be sure to have someone to go out and retrieve the plywood. Quote
Guest k2dave Posted August 27, 2001 Posted August 27, 2001 to limit the honor system maybe they would have to get a code from the geocaching site and submit it to you (either via radio/cellphone or email). You could have a formula for what card they are entitled to based on the time of their communication or just deal them the next card from the deck. ------------------ "A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed." - Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution Quote
