Invalid Waypoint, EasyGPS

I have just tried to download a cache (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=3107)using EasyGPS for Groundspeak and EasyGPS keeps crashing. After some research I found out that it is because the title of the cache contains square brackets []!!! EasyGPS can't handle this.

Maybe Dan will make a fix in EasyGPS or Jeremy will convert these special characters???

Send an email to Dan - he jumps at customer support issues.

There's not much I can do - the closing bracket really confuses the XML parser. I forwarded the message on to Jeremy. Hopefully he or the cache owner can remove the brackets from the title.

As a general rule, stay away from special characters, especially [<]>,?& when naming caches, or when entering data in EasyGPS.

Thanks to everyone who brought this to my attention! Happy caching!

I've run into the same problem. My solution was to temporarily change the extension to .txt, and editing out the offending characters, saving it back and changing the ext back to .loc. Works for me.

Yes I did the same thing except I skipped the part about renaming.

But it would be nice if you weren't allowed to put those characters in the title or if they were tranlated to legal xml characters icon_smile.gif
