bckane
Garmin GPS V Under "Find", I have saved items in categories, "POI", "Addr & Intrsct", "Other", which fall under "Recently Found Places". Does anyone know how to delete these? I've checked the manual and all the sub menus I can think of. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Brian [This message was edited by bckane on December 07, 2002 at 06:54 PM.] Quote Link to comment

Thanks, Brian There's no way to delete these other than doing a master reset which will delete all waypoints/settings etc. I don't remember off-hand what the key sequence is for doing a master reset...anyone?? +RangerRick
Hello bckane, the sequence SergZak was referring to delete waypoints is: FIND-WAYPOINT-BY NAME-(not nearest). At that point, the alpha/numeric pad pops up. Press QUIT-MENU and then you will see one of the options is Delete All. This will delete all your waypoints so make sure you back them up to your hard drive if you want to save any. Getting back to the deleting Recently Found Places issue, I believe the Garmin GPS V will only save the last 15 addresses anyway so the amount of memory used for this feature is limited. Hope this helps, RangerRick Quote Link to comment
+KYtrex
Actually, what I think SergZak was refering to was a master reset. To do this you must press and hold the QUIT and OUT buttons, and press the power button. This will delete all of your waypoints, along with anything else stored in the recently found places section. Be cautious with this operation. It also erases any user preferences that you have previously entered. To summarize, your Garmin V resets to factory settings, except for the firmware version. It will stay the same version that was last installed. Before doing this backup all of your waypoints to your computer first. Hope this helps. +Criminal
From an email to me from Garmin: Thank you for your inquiry. The only method to clear the recently found places is to perform a reset to the unit. This will erase all the user waypoints and routes. To do this, press the menu button down as you power the unit on. Thank you and best Regards, Stacy Derks Product Support Specialist I had the very same question. Notice she says to press menu and power. I don't know what menu+out will do.... Quote Link to comment
+apersson850
As far as I can see, the whole idea is that the recently found places list contains exactly that. It also renews itself each time you search for something new, as soon as it has been filled to its maximum number of entries. So why should anyone want to clear it at all? Then just trigger the find 15 times for different places, you don't have to actually go to the place. It will take a few minutes but the list will be cleared of the "sensitive" information. bckane
(Email From Garmin Tech) Thank you for contacting Garmin Int., In the unit you are not able to erase the information out of recently found places. Under each category the first thing listed under each one will be the last one you found that fits the category. I'm not sure of why they don't allow this information to be reset, but at this point in time the software does not allow it. I will pass this along as a user suggestion however. If you have any further questions, please reply back to this email.
