Garmin GPS V - How to delete items in Recently Found Places

Garmin GPS V

Under "Find", I have saved items in categories, "POI", "Addr &

Intrsct", "Other", which fall under "Recently Found Places". Does

anyone know how to delete these? I've checked the manual and all the

sub menus I can think of. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

There's no way to delete these other than doing a master reset which will delete all waypoints/settings etc. I don't remember off-hand what the key sequence is for doing a master reset...anyone??

Wow that really seem that it should have been taking care of in the software update. I guess there isnt many complains about this problem. Im wondering how many file it holds. Maybe when it get full it has a option to delete all.?

Well I send a message to Garmin Tech to see what they have to say.

Thanks Again

Hello bckane, the sequence SergZak was referring to delete waypoints is: FIND-WAYPOINT-BY NAME-(not nearest). At that point, the alpha/numeric pad pops up. Press QUIT-MENU and then you will see one of the options is Delete All. This will delete all your waypoints so make sure you back them up to your hard drive if you want to save any.

Getting back to the deleting Recently Found Places issue, I believe the Garmin GPS V will only save the last 15 addresses anyway so the amount of memory used for this feature is limited. Hope this helps, RangerRick

Actually, what I think SergZak was refering to was a master reset. To do this you must press and hold the QUIT and OUT buttons, and press the power button. This will delete all of your waypoints, along with anything else stored in the recently found places section. Be cautious with this operation. It also erases any user preferences that you have previously entered. To summarize, your Garmin V resets to factory settings, except for the firmware version. It will stay the same version that was last installed. Before doing this backup all of your waypoints to your computer first. Hope this helps.

From an email to me from Garmin:

Thank you for your inquiry.

The only method to clear the recently found places is to perform a reset to the unit. This will erase all the user waypoints and routes. To do this, press the menu button down as you power the unit on.

Thank you and best Regards,

I had the very same question. Notice she says to press menu and power. I don't know what menu+out will do....

For privacy issues...maybe you went somewhere/looked for something that you don't want to be advertised to someone that has no business in knowing. Now where was that gentleman's club called the Peppermint Rhino again??? icon_biggrin.gif

(Email From Garmin Tech)

Thank you for contacting Garmin Int.,

In the unit you are not able to erase the information out of recently found

places. Under each category the first thing listed under each one will be

the last one you found that fits the category. I'm not sure of why they

don't allow this information to be reset, but at this point in time the

software does not allow it. I will pass this along as a user suggestion

however. If you have any further questions, please reply back to this

email.
