The Lost Dutchman
I went out for my first cache today with my Garmin 40...it didn't go well. I am now looking for a new unit any suggestions? I was in the middle of a huge field and would only get a poor signal, and no positon. It this a common problem with this unit? Please advise me, as I am ready to get another unit. Thanks in advance. Something under 200 would be great. Quote Link to comment
+hoovman
Did you hold the unit the way the manual said to? I think some brands (eTrex) need to be held face up for best reception others (Garmin?) should be held with the screen facing you. Quote Link to comment
+nincehelser
I think a Garmin 40 is a single-channel receiver. This means that it can lock only only one sat a time. Which would be real trial in field. Everything modern while handle 12 channels so several sats can be locked simultaneouesly. You should find a good one under $200. George Quote Link to comment
+Hawk-eye
Trust me ... once you've tried a 12 channel parallel unit ...you're 40 is destined to become a very interesting paperweight!
