Problem With Etrex

Recommended Posts

Bought a new Etrex and have noticed that it turns itself off after a period of time. Is this normal? I know some things are programmed to automatically shut off after a period of time, not sure if this is the case or not. Thanks in advance for the help!

Interesting problem. Make sure that you are not inadvertantly turning on the backlight when not needed. This is a significant draw on the batteries and can result in early drain. Maybe this is the root of the shutdown problem.

There has been much said about the battery terminals in the Etrex line. They tend to lose contact with the batteries if the unit recieves an impact. the inertia of the batteries compresses the springs in one end of the compartment enough to create space between the batteries and the opposite terminals. Garmin has a spring spacer to fix this, but I tend to be gentle with mine, so I haven't neede one.

The only thing I hate more than going to sleep is waking up.
