+rediguana
Wanna waste some more time with GIS/GPS related activities? Try this. 1. Go to http://www.esri.com/software/arcexplorer/aedownload.html and download and install ArcExplorer - try the Java version, but you'll need to have Java installed. 2. Run it. 3. Layer > Add Layer 4. WWW > Add Web Site. URL = http://www.geographynetwork.co.nz then OK 5. NZTopo_wgs84_simple, Click the Add Layer button, and then close the Catalog window. 6. Start playing I would like to make available NZ geocache information in a database for use in this software, and its something I'll try and work on over the coming weeks. I don't know what the speeds like on dialup, but it should be useable. You may be pleasantly suprised at the detail of the information For more variety, click on the Geography Network icon, or add servers, and repeat. http://www.geographynetwork.com or http://www.ecan.govt.nz Some maps may not line up because they use different coordinate systems, but I haven't played around with that much yet. Adman
Good stuff Gav! I didn't think it would take you long to find a way for the mass's to use www.geographynetwork.co.nz for geocaching. I'm downloading now Quote Link to comment

Now I just have to look at building a database of geocaches etc so they can be easily imported into it and overlaid on the maps. Could be a very useful tool! Cheers Gav NB you are only receiving a raster image which the server builds, rather than true vector information. But the image is build from vectors, that's why it looks so good. Thats why if you check the image its called an image service Quote Link to comment
Adman
Yeah I saw gazzanic's post a couple of weeks ago (re divespot) and was hoping the soon to be arc/gis legend would be on to it . I have been so busy with minutewar recently that I haven't had a chance to investigate further quote:Originally posted by GavNow I just have to look at building a database of geocaches etc so they can be easily imported into it and overlaid on the maps. +BigNick
Stink, no Mac version Quote Link to comment
+tgsnoopy
Gee, I think I'll go download that at a friends with ADSL access to the net and put it on a zip disk. I tried setting it up to do it overnight, but alas my dialup connection just wasn't up to downloading the Megs required. Roll on ADSL for my area! Quote Link to comment

Lots of COM components I think. I think an OSX version would be incredibly sexy LOL! Quote Link to comment

+BigNick
Have you seen Emap. It would be great to be able to punch in lat/long for use in geocaching/minutewars - or get the images (cheaply) for use in your own mapping/GIS program. Nick. Shortcut to viewer Quote Link to comment
+BigNick
Oh, you can buy the colour orthos, only $3200 for a 260 sheet's worth! So that would make all of NZ $950,400.... anyone want to chip in Nick. Quote Link to comment
+tgsnoopy
Well I finally got a chance to download this using an ADSL net connection. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work on the machine with the ADSL connection as it ran Windows XP. At home on my Windows98 Second Edition Machine all went smothly, although slowly with my lowly dial up connection. Anyone had problems running it with XP and ADSL connections? When I try to add the layer, it is unable to find the server online, the list of options where you would select WDS84 simple doesn't appear, you just get an error message. I don't get much time at this machine, so a quick fix would be nice, but I will persist next chance I get. Quote Link to comment
