O'er a river and thru the woods-Bushwack Geocaching

Ever go geocaching and find yourself bushwacking in, cutting a new/different trail, or taking the more 'scenic' route? Here is my best 'bushwacking' trek. Remember this was done by a family of 6. Kids aged 2 and up!

Our Story:

 

The Gordon Clan was here!

UUUGGGHHH! WHEW! WOW! In short WHAT AN ADVENTURE!

 

Where to begin... parking yes that was a challenge as we drove all around the park starting on 302. bzzzzzzz. wrong! take 250 and look for silver road (it only goes north). Once we found that the parking area was fine.

 

This is a definate H-I-K-E! Didn't set up the gps to measure it, but I'll bet we did 5 miles round trip with lots of hills and obstacles (you'll see).

 

Studied the posted map (This is essential) and figured out probably where we were going. Started out and somewhere made a wrong turn. Not really a problem GPS said going in the right direction. Blue/red trail so no worries at this point. Turned on to just the red trail and it got interesting.

 

Not really knowing where we were in the trails, the GPS told us to jump off a cliff! Walked at least a 1/4 mile in both directions from this closest point (about 450') and found no relief! Went back to the cliff and finally found a ridge line down (very close to dangerous drop - do not attempt).

This lead us to forge the river. (A stream now due to the dryness) Followed the signal to a fallen tree and traversed the tree to get close to the meadow. Bushwacked in from there. Once in the meadow, very straight forward. Terribly glad you didnt hide it more than you did!

Took cd, marbles, stickers, toy, left star trek card packs, couple of small toys.

 

Now how to get out..... we were not sure at all. The way we took to get in was untracable back as we could not climb the tree from where we jumped. Followed a couple of what ended up to be deer paths and finally stuck out in the right direction (no they were not earlier cacher trails looking for the site!) Finally got back to the river, which we followed. Much more favorable to the chest high stinging nettle, ankle deep poison ivy, and other assorted weeds. This lead us to the trail eventually and then home.

 

What an adventure!
