Guest Paulwhy
The four of us decided to take a break on our drive to Lake Tahoe and look for the Stars and Stripes cache. We all started searching the general area when we got close, and my wife soon yelled --Is that it? A backpack is not usually used as a geocache container!-- She was excited that she was the first to see the cache (instead of our sharp eyed son who usually spots them first). We opened the backpack and soon figured out we had found someones lost backpack, not the geocache we were looking for. The backpack contained an expensive SLR camera, a journal, and an itinerary from a travel agency in the Netherlands! It evidently was lost by a forigner vacationing here in California. So, being true geocachers at heart, we signed in the journal, took the camera and left a keychain. Just kidding ;-). We saw in the itinerary the owner was scheduled to be at a hotel in Los Angeles that day, so we called the hotel, spoke to the owner (she was hoping someone would find it and try to reach her), and FedExed the backpack to her the next day. We did take a picture of ourselves with her camera :-) LOL, we could not resist. Oh Yeah, we also found the Starts & Stripes Cache, too. It was about 30 feet away. (and I saw it first - Hehehe) ---PaulWhy Quote Link to comment
Guest makaio
With the recent rash of stolen/kidnapped caches and such, it's nice to read about an act of a good samaritin. Glad to hear she retrived her backpack and belongings. What comes around goes around. Thanks for showing her the true nature of geocachers. Quote Link to comment
