BarbaraC722
Very new to geocaching....not even sure if I'm using the correct lingo here! My son would like to "hide a cache" in our yard for his big sister to find. How do I use my (iPhone) Geocache App to mark a waypoint where he's hidden it that will then be useable by his sister to track? The only place I can see an option to "mark a waypoint" is within an existing geocache's navigation screen. Is there anywhere within this app that I can get coordinates marked? I guess what I'm trying to determine is if I can eventually create and hide my own cache and use this app to determine coordinates that I can then submit here at geocaching.com for approval? Or do I need some other device or app to get these bearings? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
+Chief301
You might want to try an app called Perfect Mark. It's free (or at least it used to be), and it will calculate a waypoint for you based on the average of several readings. You definitely want to average several readings for better accuracy. For your son to hide a private cache for his sister I wouldn't be too obsessive about accuracy, but if you are going to list one on the site you should try to get the most accurate coordinates possible. Don't ever base your coordinates on a single reading. Try to get readings at a couple of different times of day. At least 2 or 3 different readings. Quote Link to comment
