+tjsdp
Hi I'd be very grateful if someone could help me. I've had my Garmin eTrex H for a couple of years and not had any problems with it, but after I'd input a couple of waypoints on it today, the third button on the left stopped working. This is the button you use to confirm an action - eg to select a waypoint to view. I have moved the rubber coating to the side, and tried to push the button directly but it did not make any difference. I can't see that it is stuck in any way, and all the other buttons still work perfectly. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can fix it - or, if I can't do it myself and have to take it in somewhere to be mended, will I lose all the information I already have stored in it? Many thanks in advance. Quote Link to comment

You might want to try removing the rubber gasket and douching the hole with electronic cleaning spray (WD40 or 5-56). Quote Link to comment

tr_s
OK - I'll try that - thanks for getting back to me so quickly Also remember Garmin warranty sometimes is valid for a full three years. You might be able to have it repaired for free by them before performing any hobby manipulation which will void the warranty. Edited July 9, 2012 by tr_s Quote Link to comment
+Sol seaker
WD 40 will ruin any rubber seals. Don't do it!!!! Yours is a hardware problem, so that can't be fixed online. For other people reading this with other problems, Garmin has great customer service that will try to help you repair software problems on the phone. It looks like you're going to need to send yours in for repair/replacement. Call Garmin directly. They will help you on the phone if they can, otherwise, if that unit is no longer under warranty you send it in and for a small fee they will exchange it with a reconditioned unit. tr_s
WD 40 will ruin any rubber seals. Don't do it!!!! I have opened an eTrex and it didn't seem to have any rubber seals 'cept its gasket. But yeah s/he should try to utilise warranty service first. Edited July 12, 2012 by tr_s Quote Link to comment
