Geocaching teams

Recommended Posts

There are Geocaching clubs/organizations and then there are teams. They are totaly different ideas.

Teams are not official in any way and most often its just a group of friends or family members that create a new account to represent all of them when caching. Teams typically cache together and use the team login to keep track of the team's caching. You can create a team any time you want.

The Geocaching organizations don't have an account to represent the entire group. Though some might. But the clubs will have get togethers and events. The one here in MD does a Cache Across Maryland event every years where the leadership of the club place new hides across the state. Each has a clue to the location of the final event so you have to go find all the caches to attend the event.

Often "teams" form for a single day. A group of, say, four people go geocaching together, and rather than sign four individual names on every log, they sign just the team name. (This helps conserve log space...and time.) On their four individual online accounts, each team member then logs their own "Found It" logs, normally including something like "Found this cache as part of Team XYZ today." This note helps cache owners associate the four online finds with the single physical log entry.
