ooga booga Posted October 12, 2002 Posted October 12, 2002 Here's the situation. I took a TB with me to a geocaching picnic today, at which a new, permanent physical cache was also placed. I dropped off the bug in the physical cache, but mistakenly logged it as being placed on the event cache's page instead. If I delete my log on the bug's page, will that take it off the cache page and back into my possession? I don't have the tracking number any more (obviously, since I don't have the bug), but I thought this might be a way to fix things. On the other hand, it also seems like it could just screw things up even more, so I want to check and see if anyone knew for sure before I tried it. Quote
Squirrel Nut & Beersnob Posted October 13, 2002 Posted October 13, 2002 I don't know if deleting the log will put it back in your posession, but.. E-mail the owner for the tag ID before you delete the log- if that happened to one of my bugs, I wouldn't mind keeping a log of the event cache (since the bug WAS there, and it's part of the bug's history), and then you could 'pick it up' and 'move' it to the physical one. I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish.. Quote
Markwell Posted October 13, 2002 Posted October 13, 2002 Deleting logs does not affect the bug's position or tracking history. To reclaim it, you would need the ID number. If it DID affect it, I could be the third person that found a bug that travelled halfway around the world for a year, delete my log and screw up everything that happened subsequently. Not a good thing. Markwell Chicago Geocaching Quote
carleenp Posted October 13, 2002 Posted October 13, 2002 Email the owner, get the id number, and then re-log it. OR, go back, get the bug number and then re-log it. Quote
ooga booga Posted October 13, 2002 Author Posted October 13, 2002 Well, it was a two-hour drive to the picnic, so I don't think I'll be going back any time soon to get the bug's number. I emailed the owner last night after I realized my mistake, but they seem to be irregular visitors to the site (last visit 10/2), so I don't know when (or if) I'll hear back from them. *shrug* Ah well. If nothing else, I'll post a note on the page for the physical cache about the bug's presence, and things should work themselves out when someone else grabs it and logs it in. Quote
