+FancoverFive
Why are caches in Northern Ireland listed as Ulster, Ireland instead of Northern Ireland, United Kingdom? Quote Link to comment
Deceangi
The decision was taken after careful discussions at the time when the Regions were added to the UK & Ireland. In the early days of the site, after complaints by some NI based cachers. Jeremy one of the sites Owners, decide to allow caches in Northern Ireland to be listed under either the UK or Ireland. Over time this created issues for cachers on running searches, Especially as this resulted in extra caches in searches Results coming back with caches in Scotland and vis versa Caches being missed off if someone searched using either the UK or Ireland designation. It was decided when adding the Regions to use the Historical Regions for Ireland. That meant using Ulster which includes the 6 counties in NI. You'll note that Ulster also includes a couple of counties in Eire. Please Note that the UK and Ireland Regions, do not follow Political regions for a variety of reasons. You can find a static map and a Google Earth Overlay at http://geocaching.croaghan.com/GE/ & http://www.follow-the-arrow.co.uk/resources/ukmap.html Caches in Ulster Ireland are reviewed by Croaghan the Ireland Reviewer. And not the UK Reviewers. Deci Edited March 20, 2010 by Deceangi Quote Link to comment
