rpspencer
Walking sticks have changed quite a bit over the past few years, however the walking stick still serves the same basic purpose, to provide support while walking or hiking. Styles of wood walking sticks range from the basic plain straight walking or hiking stick equipped with a leather strap and rubber tip to the unique Curled/Twisted sticks. The stick is formed when a vine grows around the small tree causing the tree to form the corkscrew shape. If you would like to see some of these Curled/Twisted Walking Sticks, please visit my little web page at http://www.kywalkingstick.com Comments would be appreciated. +Cabarama
wow cool, im kinda old school, just break a branch and use it, mostly for getting the small caches or the spider webs, holes, and stuff to get around Quote Link to comment
rogheff
RP, do you find the sticks with the vines strangling them, or do you wrap them yourself? Quote Link to comment
+geobudman
http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/displa...8adb5d75334.jpg My main stick is persimmon. There was a small persimmon tree outside of my other home in Mississippi that screamed "take me take me, I'm a walking stick", so I did. I cut it, peeled it, and put it over the AC vent to dry it for a couple of weeks. Then I sealed it with polyurethane, put a rubber stopper on the bottom and a leather thong on the top, voile', walking stick! Found a "toy" but useful compass that points north most of the time to put on the leather thong. Also bought a red Wal-Mart walking stick--I prefer the persimmon. Quote Link to comment
