Two quick questions

Two quick questions about A 96 RESET. We went to visit this the other day.

We found the disk that can be seen in the RD0396 photos logged on 10/14/2002 and 2/1/2003

This is an NGS disk that is clearly stamped: “A 96 RESET 1986”

Now for the 2 quickie questions:

1) Did the geocachers correctly log this as FOUND? I would think not, since RD0396 is described as “A 96” (no reset) and the last history date in the NGS datasheet for RD0396 is 1952?

2) I have looked in the NGS database and cannot find any listing for A 96 RESET. Why would that be? Is that because it was not “bluebooked”, or…?

Thanks,

1 - Nope. The monumentation date was 1934, so the disk should have that date on it and be a 'US Coast & Geodetic Survey' disk - not the 'new' National Geodetic Survey agency name.

2 - I've run across many Resets that haven't made it into the database - usually, as you said, they weren't 'bluebooked' (time/expense/paperwork lost)

Edit - Spelling -1

Unfortunately it is not unusual for NGS to have sent a pre-stamped disc to a local surveying authority (e.g. the State DoT or a county surveyor - note the county witness post) who has all the best intentions of resetting the mark, but regrettably the data never gets forwarded back to NGS. It looks like that's the case with this mark.
