Leo P
i have searched for some info on the Colorado 400c and can not locate much if any. i'm looking for a quality GPS for kayaking and turn by turn.the 400c and 60 csx seem to fit the bill.the 400c seems to have the better coastal mapping which is my main concern.it will not be used much for tracking but would like to mark some waypoints for fishing.the turn by turn will be used a couple of times a year for out of state trips. does the 400c have the same issues as the 400t? how accurately will it mark the way points? my biggest concern is how waterproof is waterproof?(it will see a lot of spray from coastal kayaking.) did the 60csx have the same issues when first released? thank you leo Quote Link to comment
ryleyinstl
Other than the preloaded map data and internal memory all Colorado's are basically identical. The accuracy down falls and other issues of the Colorado have been discussed heavily here: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=199048 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=197715 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=184158 The ability of the Colorado to live up to its IPX7 status is also questionable: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=198912 The 60CSx is a good choice. You will not find many here that will diswade you from that decision. That said, if your going to be doing lots of kayaking you might want to consider the 76CSx as it floats (basically it's identical to the 60CSx otherwise). +Rubberhead
I use a GPSmap 60CS and a new GPSmap 440s on my fishing and duck hunting boats. The 60CS is great for coastal areas when loaded with Bluecharts. Unfortunately, each region of Bluecharts costs roughly $120. I pretty much stay in US007 so it's not a problem but if I traveled south of Charleston SC or north of Williamsburg VA, I'd be out of luck. However the 440s has all of US coastal areas pre-programmed. This is the same mapset loaded in the 400c. In my opinion, this map set is worth the price of entry. Believe me, the Topo maps of the coastal areas don't hold a candle to the Bluecharts. If it were me, I'd get a 400c and purchase inland lakes DVD and a RAM Mount to go with it. Quote Link to comment
+Mudfrog
thank you ryleyinstl. then the 60csx it is. You may want to look at the 76Csx instead. I believe it has pretty much the same guts as the 60csx, is more of a marine unit, and best of all,,,, it floats! I just got the 76Cx and it's the best unit i've had to date.
