Oak
I will buy a Garmin Legend HCx on Thursday and while looking at the on-line users manual I noticed that there is a proximity alarm. If I understand correctly, this will sound a tone when I am within a certain distance of a waypoint. Is there such a thing as an alarm that will sound when moving away from a waypoint, such as dragging an anchor at night? Thanks for any information, Oak Quote Link to comment
+coggins
This might work for you: Go to the Main Menu. Select Setup. Select Marine. Select the Anchor Drag Alarm. Set the drag distance for the alarm. Quote Link to comment
Oak
Aw, I hate it when I do crap like that. I saw no mention of that on line. Thanks for the help! Utterly embarrassed, Oak Quote Link to comment
+coggins
It's in the Japanese online manual for US units: LINK, I have never read the English one, so I can't comment on that. Edited July 2, 2008 by coggins Quote Link to comment
TeamEcuador
The issue will be whether you can actaully hear that alarm when it goes off. The tones on my Legend HCx are very low and almost inaudible from a short distance, never mind when one is asleep. Quote Link to comment
+coggins
The OP wrote "at night", not "when one is asleep". Being asleep on watch is a good way to end up in the brig. Quote Link to comment

TeamEcuador
Good points. I have a hard time hearing my GPS beeps when awake during the day. Quote Link to comment
+coggins
Good points. I have a hard time hearing my GPS beeps when awake during the day. It will also give you a visual alarm warning on the screen. I have a Vista HCx and it uses "Tone 8", which is pretty obnoxious. Edited July 2, 2008 by coggins Quote Link to comment
