pandm
I was recently gifted with a Magellan Triton 200. I have a PC with WinXP x64 and I've tried unsuccessfully to install the drivers necessary to connect the Triton via the included USB cable. I called Customer Support and spoke to a guy (in India) who had me try pretty much everything he could think of, but to no avail. His final solution was to try it on a different PC. Uh, thanks, but if I can't get it to install on a platform it was intended to be installed on, there must be a problem. I exchanged it for another at the store where it was purchased, hoping that it might be the CD that was bad. Same problem occurred. Sigh... When I connect the Triton to the PC, the following happens: 1. The Found New Hardware Wizard window pops up asking me if it's OK if Windows Update searches for the software (I have the CD in the drive). 2. I click "Yes" and then "Next". 3. On the next screen I click "Install the software automatically" and "Next". 4. I wait while the Wizard searches...and searches... 5. I get a popup which says "Cannot Install this Hardware...The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software. If a driver was provided, make sure it was designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems. If you do not have an appropriate driver, contact the device manufacturer." I also tried specifying the exact location of the drivers on the CD, but that didn't work either. Has anyone else had this problem? After reading the posts about all the Triton problems everyone else is experiencing...I'm thinking I should return this and buy a different GPS. I had a Magellan SporTrak before this...worked great. Thanks in advance! P. Quote Link to comment
+WeeWillie
I have a Sport Trak too which is why I purchased a Triton. Big mistake. I've had nothing but problem. I. Had I know about the Triton Forum and the reported problems I never would have purchased a Triton. It wasn't ready for prime time, Magellan should never have released it, and they should be penalized for it. I have kind of figured out how to make it work but I still have problems finding caches with it. By latest beef is the dopey proccessing icon that goes off. I will never buy a Magellan again. If you can return your Triton, do it. Edited April 4, 2008 by WeeWillie Quote Link to comment
