+JonInNH1 Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 I own a garmin gpsmap 60cs. When trying to use the goto option to find caches the arrow almost never points in the correct direction, usually in the opposite. Is there a setting that is not set up correctly? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Quote
dogwalkers2 Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Have you calibrated the compass lately? Are you holding the unit level? If out of level, it can't measure the magnetic field properly (just like if you had a normal magnetic compass). Quote

It seems that I have to recalibrate everytime I use my GPS to get things accurate, so I don't think it is that. As far as holding it level I think I am doing a good job of it. Next time out I will make sure it is and see what happens. Quote
+RubberToes Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Take a look at Menu | Setup | Heading and see how things are set up at the bottom of that page. I have mine set for 2mph and 5 seconds. If you have larger values for those numbers, your compass is probably not switching on fast enough to be of value to you. Quote

As much as I hate to admit it, sometimes the darn thing works better with the compass turned off. Quote

My settings were 10mph and every 90 seconds. I changed them to yours. I will see if that helps. Thanks for the tip. Edited October 9, 2007 by joninnh1 Quote
