mapsend s&d with explorist 400?

hi everyone, i just got an explorist 400. i don't have any map installed on it so a friend gave me mapsend s&d.

 

how do i use the .img file from mapsend to use them in the 400? it looks like the 400 uses .imi file is there any way to convert them?

I was looking into S&D myself and what I get from it is that it's not compatible with any of the eXplorist series. It seems that the only product from Magellan that is is the topo series of maps. Your best bet to check would be to look through the menus and find the GPS set-up. If it prompts you to look for comm ports then you're out of luck, unless you have a USB-Comm adapter I guess. But then you're getting into image compatibilities which I cannot help you with.

Topo3D and DirectRoute will both work with the Explorist series. The older versions (that come on CD) of those programs lack USB-awareness and will require a third applet to transfer files (e.g., Windows Explorer), while the newest versions (that come on DVD) can communicate directly with the GPS.

my problem wasn<t for downloading the .img to the sd card in fact it is working. but the gps (explorist 400) can't read it. if i'm right the file made by s&d is .img and what is needed for the explo 400 is .imi ... i'm looking forward to convert them but i'm not a software geek so i'm stugling with this option. hope somebody can help

IMO it takes some geeking to do the conversion. If you're like me, you'll decide the cost of a compatible MapSend like T3D or DR is not such a bad expense when you consider the alternative.

Try looking on your 400 set up disc for a conversion program. I bought a explorist 400 wilderness bundle and it had map send topo and the 400 disc which has a program to convert map send regions format over to magellen format.
