Westover Benchmark

I have gone to westover baptist church but cannot find the benchmark!! Has anyone seen it?

You're going to have to give out a little more info than that. ie. What state, county, town are you in? What's the PID of the benchmark? Approximate Lat/Long? If you tell us any of these things, we may be able to help.

Presumably ARLINGTON WESTOVER BAP CH is the benchmark you're looking for. On the benchmark's page, 4 lines below the coordinates, is the "Marker type" line, which says that this benchmark is a church spire.

 

So, in this case, instead of a disk, the benchmark is the top of the spire. To log it, just take a picture of the church spire while you are standing on the ground.

He is probably looking for HV4853 or something else close. Arlington, VA.

 

If so that is the actual spire of the church. What is called in intersection station. That is something which can be seen from a distance and therefore positioned by triangulation methods, but may not have been occupied or monumented.

Sometimes or even often the tower has changed, been destroyed or rebuilt and it may not be in the same place. The recovery note on the current NGS datasheet indicates it has changed nature, but I suspect it is at least in the the same position.
