sleepyt
I recently got an eTrex from a friend. Is the eTrex WAAS enabled all of the time, or do I have to activate it? Thanks, Travis Quote Link to comment
thebairyhum
I recently got an eTrex from a friend. Is the eTrex WAAS enabled all of the time, or do I have to activate it? Thanks, Travis I assume you are referring to the baseline eTrex model (http://www.garmin.com/products/etrex/). In the system menu there is a Mode pulldown menu with 4 options: Normal, WAAS, Battery Save, and Demo. The Normal will turn WAAS off and Battery Save will update the system less frequently and I would assume not use WAAS. +gpsblake
By default, WAAS is not enabled on the Etrex series. So you do have to activate it unless your friend already did so. Follow the instructions that the previous poster said. Quote Link to comment
+budd-rdc
Some older versions of eTrex's do not support WAAS at all, and they are not upgradeable. Find [sETUP] then [sYSTEM] then select [sOFTWARE] (second button from the bottom), and tell us which version you have. Quote Link to comment

Find [sETUP] then [sYSTEM] then select [sOFTWARE] (second button from the bottom), and tell us which version you have. It's software version 2.14 - I dont think that I can upgrade this version. Also, there is no option for changing to WAAS enabled. (Just Normal, Battery Save, Demo) Quote Link to comment

I have a similar setup, an eTrex Summit with version 2.50, no WAAS. As long as you get used to how it behaves under multipathing (especially near cyclone fences) and tree cover, it's a great unit for Geocaching. Quote Link to comment
