+slippeddisk
I feel like I cheated on this one. I got there after work today and had an easy go of it. Just feels like cheating to me, but I logged it anyway. Guess I don't feel that bad! Edited December 5, 2006 by slippeddisk Quote Link to comment
ArtMan
Jeez, if it's cheating to claim a find where a mark has been festooned with surveyors' tape, I'd hate to consider the offense when the logged mark is in active use, like H 337 (HW0294) in Shenandoah Co., Virginia, which I stumbled on recently. If you think flagging makes a mark hard to miss, what does that say about a tripod and associated hardware mounted thereon. -ArtMan- Quote Link to comment
+slippeddisk
ArtMan HW0294 is so close to my house I think I can spit and hit it. Next time you are coming through let me know. slippeddisk Quote Link to comment
+Holtie22
Even though local surveyors are using the geodetic control for their work, it doesn't mean that they are reporting the recovery to NGS. More likely than not, they aren't. (Unless they have taken up benchmarking as a hobby!) Quote Link to comment
+slippeddisk
It seems they did report this one to the NGS. Quote Link to comment
+BuckBrooke
I've reported all (or nearly all) of the stations between Albuquerque and Socorro, NM. Now that I'm regularly driving the interstate, I noticed survey crews at a lot of the stations in September, and now all of the stations are flagged w/ pink ribbon. Kind of made me want to get a spool of pink ribbon with www.geocaching.com GEOCAC printed on it and flag stations myself. Quote Link to comment

Guess I don't fell that bad! ...don't feel bad after finding an easy one - benchmarking "karma" has a way of evening out ...especially after spending a couple'a hours poking around for a missing triangulation station & it's RM's/AZ ! Yeah, but if they haven't used the station before (or if they are careful, even if they are re-using it) they will read the data sheet and see your log. You still get your accomplishment noted, just not so in-your-face as having your own ribbon. Quote Link to comment
+Sagefox
I always like it when the surveyors paint the pid on the highway with a hash mark identifying the exact location. Good surveyor! Quote Link to comment
