ArtMan
"The purpose of the Libre Map Project is to aggregate and make digital maps and related GIS data available for Free." They have scanned, high-quality topo maps (full U.S. coverage, I think), 2003 Census TIGER/Line data, and more. Looks pretty useful. Incidentally, found out about this via an interesting blog I sometimes visit called The Map Room: A Weblog About Maps. -ArtMan- Edited November 1, 2006 by ArtMan Quote Link to comment
monkeykat
And here is a link to a PDF file from the USGS with a very detailed description of symbols and markings found on topo maps. USGS Topo Map Symbols PDF Quote Link to comment
mloser
The story of the Libre project is interesting in itself. Take a look at Free the Maps. Quote Link to comment
