NotDadsW41
Hi All, First post. I have been wanting to get started for some time. but as I am a serious tightwad, I have been putting things off. Just now I have found a deal on a Lowrance iFINDER PhD GPS Plus. This includes the unit and the Map Create software, cables etc. Price is usually at or near $300 is most places. Maybe as low as $275. I have found it for $199. And on top of that I have a $50 gift card I can use... Total cost down to $150 plus shipping. I am thinking hard, but must act quick. Thoughts anyone? Thanks! +Steel City Seekers
The only question that I would have is the version of the Mapcreate software. I'm pretty sure the latest, Mapcreate 6.3 Topo, was released after the PHD. It might have Mapcreate 6.2 without the topo lines. For me, the topo was the whole reason I bought Mapcreate in the first place. If I were you, I'd check into this, and maybe the topo lines don't even matter to you. Anyhow, $150 is a great price for the receiver even if it is MC 6.2. Can't say much more than that. They are good quality receivers that won't let you down. Quote Link to comment
NotDadsW41
Excellent. I'm having trouble getting the company to validate the giftcards that I have right now. Price might be closer to $200 if I can't. Product description reads "Plus, it comes with a MapCreate Topo USA CD-ROM software and hardware you can use to create custom, high-detail mapping to download from your PC to digital media cards." Should I assume since it says Topo there it is the 6.2? Still trying to get to talk to some one at the seller's. Just too early in the AM right now. EDIT - Well I went ahead and placed the order. with my gift cards. Total Price(including shipping) = $161.75 The product specialist was pretty confident is was the 6.3 version of the software given the description reads "Topo" as I stated above. +Steel City Seekers
Mapcreate 6.3 was the first and only that has topo, so it sounds like you are getting the latest. Welcome to the club and be sure to check out Airmapper's Lowrance site for some required reading on setting up your new iFinder. +DonB
Will do the reading. I have a week or so before it gets here. Can't wait!!! I will have to occupy myself with the reading for now. You can download most of the iFinder manuals on Lowrance's website, it will give you something to read while you wait. I have the iFinder Hunt and love it. Quote Link to comment
NotDadsW41
I've got that one already and will spend this week reading that as well. Patience is NOT one of my virtues though.... I want my GPS now!!! Quote Link to comment
+Airmapper
Have you got a product emulator yet? On the Lowrance website you can download a program that acts like a GPS. I'd say the H2O emulator is closest to a PhD. You can mess with that and learn the menus till the real one arrives. I hate to wait for stuff to ship, you'll get all anxious and will be looking out the window every time you think you hear a delivery truck. Quote Link to comment
