gtx71
i have been wondering what exactly determines the amount of signal that a gps recieves. sometimes i recieve great signals and othertimes i can not even lock on any satellites. i am seeing this mostly in my vehicle. i have a gpsmap60cs and to be honest i am unhappy with the ability to actauuly use it do to its poor reception. i took a trip to n.c. and half of the time i had no or liitle signal. and the cloud cover was crystal clear. i have the gps mounted to my dash and sometimes i get great signals and other times i get nothing. am i the onlyone that has this problem or is it something that i should consider contacting garmin. did anybody have a problem the day that england stop the flights t.b. +EScout
Check to see if you car's windshield has a metalic coating. There is a site to check this, maybe someone can post it. Also, turn on your GPSr outside your car before you start your trip and let it get a good position fix before you go. Quote Link to comment
+Sputnik 57
There is a pretty good list here. If that is the problem, a Gilsson exteranl antenna is a good solution. Quote Link to comment
+GPSlug
When I'm in my brother's car, his XM radio jams my GPSr if it's within a couple of feet. I have to turn the XM's power off to use the GPSr on the dash. It's easy to test (bars go down...bars go up...bars go down...bars go up). Quote Link to comment
gtx71
GPSLUG, YOU HIT THE NAIL ONT HE HEAD. IT WAS NOT A SATTELLITE RADIO, IT WAS MY CB RADIO. TURN IT ON BARS GO DOWN. TURN IT OFF BARS GO BACK UP. LIKE YOU SAID, IT HAPPENS IMMEDIATELY. THANKS EVERYBODY FOR YOUR INPUT. GTX71 Quote Link to comment
+Fhantazm
Thats really weird that a 27mhz radio on recevie "jams" a 1+ ghz signal. But I guess weirder things have happened. Quote Link to comment
