Didnt Find It And Walked Away With Some Bruises

Recommended Posts

The cache we were looking for was the "Evil Inside" cache in Omaha, Ne. The first location is just in a park. But, being as this IS Nebraska, parks are located in the forest.

This perticular cach is located in the middle of a forest that has some VERY STEEP hills that i dont even consider hills. I took one look at then and said 'This is a friggen cliff, man." So my friend and I start our descent, holding on to what we can. We decided to use the buddy system and go down together. Bad idea to say the least. We got about fifteen feet in and started looking around for the cache. I found out how useless my GPS was when we went from 120 feet away to 288 feet away. As we continued down the hill we stoped to look down and around and on one of these stops we both held on to the same tree. neither of us saw anything at this point so we discussed possible hiding spots. And as we talked things over we heard this cracking sound (we thought it was a deer or somthing). And i swear it could have been in a movie. We look down at the tree and then to each other, "Oh, sh**". A second later. SNAP!!! Down we go, falling in what felt like slow motion, and as i fell i thought to myself 'There are so many trees in here, one of us is gonna hit our head and this is going to end very badly'. I managed, in my some what panicked state to grab on to another tree. Looking back, our luck with trees hadnt been so good but at the time i wasnt worried about that because my friend was still falling. And then i heard this big CRASH, SNAP!!! And then nothing. I looked down, and yelled to him. "Alex! YOU OK?!"

"YEAH, IM OK". Ok is kind of a lie. That snap was the sound of him trying to grab onto a tree (what is it with us and trees?) and under his weight splintering and in the process cutting up his hand a little. It wasnt that bad. Its the crash that was worse. The crash in question was owned by the big bush of nettles that he landed in. we didnt end up finding the cache. So we decide to call it quits for now and head home. So on our way out we looked very carefully at what we were holding on to. But not what we where stepping on. Alex made it to the top and was resting on the crest. I almost made it to the top, holding on to a tree that was strudy this time i managed to find a root that was strong. The root was possitioned just above and behind the tree. Grabbing on to the root and testing it i decided that it would be my best shot. I plant my foot, pull up, and with no sound, the dirt from under my foot just sweapt out from under me. And that tree that i was so happy to find that was so sturdy had very quickly went from my best friend to my worst enemy. Remember how i said that the root was behind the tree? When my footing gave i had nowhere to go but down. ONTO THE TREE. Still holding on to the root and legs on either side of the tree, i realized very quickly that i need to put my masculinity behind me and ask for help. Alex found a good sized branch and pulled me up. But dont worry. Ill be back with rope and flash lights. I dont give up easily. And now that forest owes me something.
