  1. The most reliable instant-notification-on-email app I've found, really, is gmail. Set up a gmail account for gc notifications, then turn on push notifications in the mobile app. Other email providers may ping but I've found gmail to be the most instantaneous option. Depending on how fast you really need those notifications You can also have gmail forward those emails to another primary personal inbox if you wish. I actually set up a forwarding account on my domain for this geocaching account which copies emails to a gmail account for notifications, and to my personal inbox for my record.
  2. Hello, I have an old yahoo email account that I have used for years. I finally decided to get rid of it in favor of a gmail account. I updated my email address on geocaching.com and I now get all my geocaching emails at my new gmail account. However, I continue to get my Waymarking emails at my old yahoo account. I log in to Waymarking.com and it shows my updated gmail account on my profile, but I continue to get Waymarking emails at my old yahoo account anyway. How do I switch my Waymarking email address to my new gmail account? Thanks, Josh
  3. I created the functionality many years ago when lab caches were first coming out, as an example of my own sort of "lab". After getting it vetted by HQ, I released my own as well as functionality for people to create their own. Since then, I have made almost no changes to the code I released, which honestly was just a big old hack. I wrote it on a rainy day while on vacation in the Adirondacks wondering "I wonder if ..." Well it's lasted longer than I expected, but the poor choice of implementation on my side with polling back to the server was causing some issues on the server side off and on. Rather than fix it I decided to retire this fun experiment, about 8 years after I thought I would retire it. Thanks to all who played with it and created their own. After retiring it I found out that there were many more out there than I had expected and I apologize for the sudden retirement. It may come back some day if I decide to rewrite it. I thought after I retired over 4 years ago from a full time software job I would have more time to create and maintain similar projects, but somehow my days are getting filled with other activities! Side note: When I first released this, some random person came across it and wanted to use it for other purposes. They didn't say what the purposes were, but from their email domain I concluded it was for, let's say, anonymous group encounters in the woods. I chuckled, and never responded. I should do a database dump to see if there are any non-geocaching purposes out there.
  4. I set up a new email account that is pushed through to my phone. In my main email new cache reports are diverted to that account... So I get a text-like notification on publication of new caches.
  5. Geooh GO does the same as Cachly plus more. Email support for assistance.
  6. A couple caches were published yesterday. Only one of them shows up on the map in the app. However, when I log in to the website, they appear on the website map. Wonder how many caches I'm missing because they aren't showing in the app? I receive an email notification when new caches are published in my area. If I click on the link in the email it opens the cache page and I can navigate to it, but when I go back to the map it does not show up. The two that I know are not showing in the app are TMR - Path - Dans Le Coin (GCA69BM) and TMR - Path - Myers (GCA69AP). The one that DOES appear is TMR - Path - Draining (GCA69B0). I am using an Iphone 13 IOS 16.3.1. Geocache App version I believe is 9.240 (2792) I am a premium subscriber so that should not be an issue. In the TMR-Path-Dans Le Coin image, the green cache icon is TMR-Path-Draining.
  7. Any players who experience technical difficulties with the Read to me feature can contact Geocaching HQ for technical support. Please email us directly at contact@geocaching.com.
  8. Hi, Our Premium Account that we have held for many years is unable to be accessed due to we think a user name attributed to a defunct e mail address used when first set up. How can I re access my account on my new phone. My previous log ins were always through automatically logins and I have lost all my login detail and 500 plus geocache logs. How can I reinstate my old account without having to start again . Thank you
  9. I am trying to add my husbands email to my account so he can get notifications as well. When I click on add another email and type in my password, it says my password is wrong. So I log out and then log back in just fine. Does anyone know why it gives you the option to add another email on my account but keeps saying the password is wrong?
  10. I have two verified email addresses in my premium account, yet when I try to run a pocket query and send that query to my email address, neither of my email addresses shows up on the page. Instead, I receive the option to click on a link to add another email address to my account. Clicking the arrow in the box shows no email addresses. I have not geocached in a while....am I missing something? I am using geocaching.com on my laptop.
  11. I send an email via the site to a reviewer, and every special character was not encoded correctly. Here's a little snipped:
  12. https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=127&pgid=936 If it's okay with you they use the message center, then why do you tell them not to do it except in rare circumstances? Telling geocachers to not use the message center, and that they must use a specific email is where you violate the guidelines for virtual rewards. You don't get to choose which method they use. Here's what the help center says on virtual rewards which is in the link above: Keep in mind that answers may be submitted by Geocaching.com email or Message Center. So if you require answers to you directly, you’ll have to check both places (or update your settings to receive an email notification for Messages). Edit: also note this, which is somewhat in conflict with your statement about giving permission to log: Once you send your answers, you may log your find online before hearing back from the cache owner.
  13. I like to see logs on my caches and receiving email notifications alerts me to new ones. However, log edits do not trigger an email notification and edits might include stuff that I need to see. I don't want to have to regularly check back through old logs to see if edits have been made so any chance we could have email notifications for edits and make that an optional thing to suit individual preferences?
  14. I get a lot of the "[GEO] Notify" emails and cannot figure out how to turn them off. does anyone know how?
  15. There's another aspect to this you're overlooking, and that's active and responsive COs of older caches that have received a false-positive CHS email, or perhaps had an NM logged by a newbie searching for a puzzle cache at its listed coordinates or whatever, and decide, well, it's an older cache that's had a good run but it's a tough hike to get out to in the middle of summer so they take the path of least resistance and archive it. In situations like that, it never goes to the reviewer to make a judgement call. I know COs of high terrain caches who, while they still monitor their emails and occasionally visit the website, don't do much caching these days as work and family commitments have taken priority, or simply because the game has lost its gloss for them. Faced with the choice of doing a half-day or full-day jaunt to check on a cache they know is okay, just so they can log an OM to reset the CHS or clear an erroneous NM, or just taking the path of least resistance and logging Archive, I can guess which way they'd go. I'd probably fall into that category too, particularly at this time of year, since most of my hides get few finds these days, even the newer ones. If I got a CHS email on GC6JMDK, for example, which was last found in 2020, I'd almost certainly just archive it and go to retrieve the cache next winter. After a decade in the game, I don't feel strongly attached enough to any of my hides now to want to go to the effort of defending them against the system, except perhaps something I put a lot of effort into creating like Dead Stars or The Bushranger's Legacy. I have archival logs included in my instant notifications and I'm seeing a lot of owner archivals on older caches at the moment. I have no way of knowing if any of those are in response to a false-positive CHS flag, and most probably aren't, but it wouldn't surprise me if a few were. That's not a problem if they're hiding new caches to make up for the archived ones, but the tone of many of the archival logs suggests that's not the case.
  16. I need to add one more to my list of goals for 2024 ... Use the Virtual 4.0 I was awarded and come up with something awesome! Yes, I was pleasantly surprised to get the "Congratulations!" email yesterday - now I need to something worhtwhile for folks to do!
  17. I received a gift payment on April 21, 2021. I can see it in my payment history. I have already given a gift payment myself and therefore know that a message was then sent by email to the recipient of the gift payment. However, I haven't received one yet. Maybe there was an error with the delivery of the email? Where can I get information about the donor? It is very annoying if you do not receive any information about it, because then you cannot thank the dear donor. Thanks for any information.
  18. I just received the GC-HQ email too! 😀
  19. I access email via Chrome. Last week when I clicked "Download now"; Chromes downloaded the file but warned me it might be unsafe; I clicked "accept" and file was downloaded/available. After another Chrome update; now when I click the "Download now" link; I see a new tab open and close. When I ask Chrome to reopen last closed tab; I see its the PQ download page. This suggests that the PQ download page was accessed; yet no file was downloaded. Anyone else see the same behaviour? I know I can go to the PQ download page and manually download a file; but that's a LOT more clicks than just clicking link in email. How to fix this? Chrome Version 87.0.4280.66 (Official Build) (64-bit)
  20. If I have two different validated email addresses on my geocachig.com account, is it possible to order automatic messages from my hides on separate emails? For example: terrain 5.0 caches to one email and the rest to the other. I mean is there a setting to choose that messages from this cache are sent to emails A and from the next cache to email B? Thank you!
  21. I just wanted to bump this with the latest version of my "pretty please" letter, since (a) it's gotten better (or at least I'd like to think so), and (b) it took me a while to find this post. I've got some notes at the bottom. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, I am looking for permission to create an earthcache based on [, based on research available here: [links to references] An earthcache is a geocache that has no physical container and requires people to answer questions to log their find. based on earth science lessons. In order to get started, I need permission from park staff. This is not my first earthcache. I currently manage [total] earthcaches in different areas of the United States. Over the past several years, I have worked with [agencies] to place earthcaches on park property. (Note 1) As I mentioned to [person you spoke with], (Note 2) I want to ensure this cache is designed responsibly, putting the park's needs first and foremost. I will make any necessary changes to the cache location or description before publishing (Note 3), and I will design the experience to make sure that people completing this earthcache would stay in areas that would have no more impact than any other visitor to the park. I anticipate bringing visitors to [subject] in the vicinity of [coordinates] and having them examine the [feature] there from [publicly accessible area]. If you'd like to see examples of earthcaches I placed at [other places] after working with park staff, you can see them here: (Note 4) [links] I'm available by email at [email] or by cell at [phone] if you have any questions or need more information. If I have not sent this to the right folks for review, I would appreciate you forwarding this to the right official(s). Thanks for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes 1. Obviously, if this IS your first earthcache, this part's not so helpful. But maybe replace it with, "I'm working with an experienced earthcache reviewer, who has a considerable amount of experience working to ensure that earthcaches are placed appropriately, including in protected areas like this one." 2. Normally, I'll call a park (or visit in person) to see who I should be talking to, even if I already know who the right point of contact is (because I looked at the regional wiki for that area). First, it's easy to miss an email (or to get one stuck in a spam filter). But people don't normally ignore conversations. Second, talking to a live human is a good way to demonstrate that you have a sincere interest and aren't just some kook from the internet. Third, park staff know their location and might have recommendations for a good spot, or access to additional sources that you didn't find, or even let you know about another feature in the park that would also be a good earthcache. 3. How to let park staff see your earthcache before review? I usually pull up my draft earthcache, then print to PDF and attach the file to my email. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done. 4. Again, if this is your first earthcache, not super helpful. But you could instead just link them to other earthcaches that have been placed in environmentally sensitive areas, to show the land manager how someone else did it and that's how you intend to do itas well.
  22. If you archived a cache by mistake, write an email to your local Community Volunteer Reviewer through their profile page and ask them to review for possible unarchival. The answer will depend on the circumstances. First, the cache will be re-reviewed to make sure it meets the current Geocache Hiding Guidelines. This includes checking to see whether someone else hid a cache close by, because the spot taken by the archived cache was freed up. Also, the timing is relevant. If a CO archives a cache on Wednesday and it's found on Saturday, the case for unarchiving is much stronger than if someone came across the archived cache several years later. In contrast, if a cache page is archived by a Reviewer or a Lackey due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is not eligible for unarchival.
  23. A question about when an event owner makes an announcement: I saw an event in my area that looked interesting, but it was at an inconvenient time for me. I put my chances of attending at about 30%, so rather than log a "Will Attend", I logged a "Write Note", as my chance of "Will Not attend" was greater. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the EO had to change the time of the event, and did so in an "Announcement" log. For the life of me, I cannot find the email that normally comes when an EO makes an announcement. Does that only get sent to people who logged "WA" logs, rather than everyone who logged anything? Or did I accidentally delete an email? In the end, I showed up expecting an event, only to find out by checking the event page (wondering why nobody else was there) what had happened. Lesson learned: always check event page before planning to leave for an event; don't expect to receive announcements.
