  1. Is there any way to use Garmin's mapsource topo 2008 to place maps in the Oregon 200?
  2. Ez a tema foleg a fenti GPS-szel rendelkezoknek szol. Nem tudom, szoktatok-e egyaltalan a firmware-t frissiteni es milyen gyakran. Szerintem a stabil verziokat megeri rapakolni (Garmin WebUpdater-rel lehet). En eleinte frissitgettem, aztan el is feledkeztem rola. Ma ujra frissitettem es sok ujat talaltam benne.
  3. I've been looking at the Garmin eTrex Venture HC. It seems to be positively reviewed by most people. I don't need much in the way of paperless caching, as I have an iPod touch with the official app. I just need a relatively basic but reliable GPS to help me find caches. That's about all as far as my criteria goes. What do you all suggest?
  4. For Sale: Garmin Oregon 200 I was surprised with a new Oregon 450, so I have a Oregon 200 that I need to sell. I've used it for a year and it is still in like new cond. I paid $400 for it a year ago. I'll take $200.00 for it.
  5. I got my new Oregon 200 in the mail a few days ago, and I used it for the first time yesterday!! For the most part, I find the operation to be very intuitive, which is nice, because the user guide leaves something to be desired... There are some things I can't figure out how to do: - In geocaching mode, once I have selected a cache to navigate to, how do I get the GPS to display the distance and direction to the cache? - After I have found a geocache, I enter a few notes to remind me about the find. How do I access these notes later when I am logging online? - When I look at my list of found caches, they don't seem to be in any logical order. How can I distinguish new finds from old finds? (for the purpose of logging online)
  6. Currently using a Blackberry with Geocache Navigator (because thats what I'm used to and I can find updated logs, etc much easier) and going to the Oregon 200 when I get in close to a cache. I'm sure I need more time to figure out the 200 but I'm a bit frustrated as I can't get maps to display properly if at all (Topo Canada is installed on the microSD). I usually get a white screen with a couple red dots on it and everything I do to try and change it doesn't help. I find the thing a pain to use with the touchscreen offering limited choices. I'm considering taking the Oregon back (costco-$279) and picking up the GPSMAP 60CSX (costco-$219). How do the two compare? I know the 60CSX has an electronic compass but does that matter? Is it easier to use? Is the display better on the 60CSX? (the sunlight issue wasn't too bad on the 200 but the Blackberry was smaller but easier to read). Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  7. I have a Oregon 200 Garmin and have been geo caching with it, I can NOT figure out how to delete the FOUND geo caches from it without setting it back to manufacture settings or to delete all the geo caches from it at once.....my 60cx was a whole lot user friendly as far as figureing this out, even read the manual and it doesn't tell you anything anyone out there have one and know how to do this PLEASE let me know.
  8. This was only purchased in May, but to be honest I have a passion against touch screens and just can't get to grips with this, so we are going to get a more tactile one. We are selling this on Ebay in the UK, but it anyone is interested and wants to buy it outwith Ebay and Paypal, please just email us at: coxandclan@googlemail.com It comes fully boxed and has hardly been used. It was recently tested to destruction on the Gadget Show, so there goes my idea of chucking it out the window when I have had enough of it!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=260667852409 Thank you Karen and Rob aka CoxandClan
  9. I transferred a GPX Pocket Query to the micro SD card installed in my Oregon. When I went to the Geocache menu nothing was there. I loaded the same files to the internal memory and I could now view them. Are you not able to load GPX files to the SD card? Do I need to change a setting to view them? Thanks
  10. I am using a Garmin Oregon 200 and I installed a 2 Gb card but no where in the GPSr is there an option to even say that there is a card there. I bought the trail TOPO from Garmin and it wont download because it says there is only 22Mb available on the unit when there is a whole 2Gb waiting. Can anyone help me with this?
  11. So I downloaded a 1000 caches pq a few weeks ago and it's dawned on me that I might need to update it regularly. But obviously I want to be able to keep all the found details I've got on my GPS. Or am I looking at this the wrong way. Should I delete every detail on my GPS then download a found pq and a local 1000 cache pq? Or am I getting completely mixed up, I feel I am. So far I've just unzipped the pq file and put it straight into the right folder on the GPS. Any help to get me sorted out would be appreciated,
  12. I've recently purchased an Oregon 200 ($279 w/ TOPO Canada) and have found that it isn't a whole lot better than the Blackberry 8330 w/ Geocache Navigator that I was using previously. I'm still frustrated with inconsistent GZ readings, hopping around showing 0 metres then bouncing around to 6 or 8 metres (that's 20 to 25 feet). I see the REI deal with the Oregon 450 ($249 US) and I'm wondering if I should return the 200 and pick up the 450. Will the electronic compass make a significant difference when I get in close? What to do, what to do...? Thanks
  13. So after becoming frustrated with my Blackberry 8330 (with Geocache Navigator) due to accuracy issues, I finally went ahead and took advantage of what seems like a pretty good deal at Costco (Oregon 200 with TOPO Canada maps for $279). I knew I'd have to do a bit of a sales job on my wife (she thinks GPS's are about $100) but she'd been caching with us and experienced the frustration of compass fluctuation so aside from her initial sticker shock, it went pretty well. So today she says why don't you take that one back (it's still in the box) and get a more expensive one (not a misprint), since that one is just for geocaching. Why don't you get one that we can use in the car as well, and does all that "turn right here" and calculates your arrival time, etc. So my question is: Is there a GPS that does double duty, as in works as a car navigation GPS and a decent paperless geocaching GPS? Or is there some app or add-on that I can use with the Oregon 200 that will serve the purpose(s). Please let me know your opinions on this matter. Thanks!!!
  14. I am in the beginning stages of developing two seperate but mostly unrelated earthcaches with the ideal location for both being within 200 feet of each other. Is this allowed? If you'd like to know more, see below. First, the location is a unique spot located off the interstate in North Dakota. There is an informational display there with facts about wind development in ND and also a single modern wind turbine. This spot also happens to be located on a distinctive glacial end moraine. Originally, I started out to develop an EC about the end moraine. Scoping out the site, I thought it may also be interesting to do another EC about why it's so windy in North Dakota (part of which is the lack of terrain roughness and locally the elevated position of this particular spot). The site has minimal amenities, basically just a parking lot with the signage, surrounded by farm land. I would place the wind EC by the sign and the end moraine EC at the opposite edge of the parking lot. Yes, it is possible to relocate the Wind EC to one of many wind developments in ND, but not all have informational displays or are on a well-traveled path. Of course this is also contingent on land owner permission and approval. Just wondering if it's even allowed or I shouldn't waste my time? Thank you!
  15. So i just recently started geocaching and my prime and only GPS that im using right now is the Garmin Nuvi 200. I was just wondering if any one else has used this GPS and if they find it reliable or not. So far its been pretty good to me although recently it has lead me a few feet away from the cache's exact location. Im wondering if its inaccurate and I'm kinda worried that it will lead me in the wrong direction for future caches. Nevertheless, like i mentioned it has been working for me decently well so far and i dont really have the money to buy a new one. Im just wondering if anyone is also lukewarm with this GPS. Basically i need to hear someone elses experiences good and bad.
  16. My pc doesn't recognize my Oregon 200, I plug in the usb cable and the gps just turns on. I've never seen it turn on completely under usb power. I'm runnin 3.82. Any ideas? Thanks
  17. its less than 2 months old and wont turn on.(well stay on) it goes through the motions and just as the home page would turn on it shuts off. Its acting the same way as it would when the batteries are dead. it also will not connect to the computer with usb, any ideas??
  18. Hola, qué tal. Me estreno en este foro haciendo una consulta sobre un pequeño problema que tengo con los GPX de algunos cachés que no se muestran en el mapa. Normalmente todo funciona bien, pero con ciertos cachés la cosa no va. GC1GBF2.GPX -> El Salvador (Ayamonte) by Alieri GCY2N3.GPX -> Cache Marim by NFreitas e AnaFilipa GC1RARE.GPX -> Terras de Aleixo [V. Real St. Antonio] by ajsa & golfinha adopted by Alieri GCZ9N5.GPX -> Canto Inferior Direito by clcortez adopted by alieri GC14QEY.GPX -> Percurso Aldeia Nova [Monte Gordo] by alieri GC1NGQ6.GPX -> Cache da Alagoa by Zd GC18E9.GPX -> BG04 - Cache da Lota by BVGeMCM He comprobado que aún con la sintaxis XML dentro del fichero GPX hay sentencias HTML puras que no permite dentro, incluso con algunos caracteres especiales da problemas. Lo curioso es que la mayoría de esos cachés están en Portugal o cerca. A alguno os ha pasado lo mismo??? Además, no me pasa con todos, solo con algunos! Saludos. PD: seguiré investigando y si encuentro la solución ya os la comento.

  20. I am really new to geocaching but my wife found it and now we are hooked. We started with an old Magellan Blazer12 then I got a Garmin eTrex Legend from work to use for a bit. Needless to say, the eTrex blows the Magellan out of the water. Now I am looking for something to go paperless with and auto load my caches. I don't want to spend anymore than $200 for a unit. I have found numerous refurbished Garmin units with 1-yr manufacture warranties on ebay. The two that I am focused on is the Colorado 300 or 400i (I know, the "i" stands for Inland waterways but I am going to load in better maps) and the Oregon 200. I am having a real hard time deciding between the two and I know both units are really good. The big difference is the Colorado has the wheel instead of the touch screen and the Oregon has the newer satellite "hotfix" feature. I am looking for some input from someone that actually uses one of these units for geocaching. If someone has owned and used both units, that would be even better. I would greatly appreciate any input from members of this forum. Thanks, Chris562 and Tawana730
  21. I have Triton 200 for sale as I just upgraded to T400. It comes with USB cable but I do not think I have the original box anymore. The screen has few light scratches but they are invisible when GPS is on. Case is in excellent condition. All buttons/features work 100%. It has the better basemap loaded. I bought it new and used to find about 50 caches. Very good first GPS. You can load Google maps (street, topo) on it easily and for free. Price: $50 shipped (using the USPS $4.95 flat rate box).
  22. I'm not sure about it because it's an older model, and the reason it's for sale is because it's being discontinued. But my price range is $250 max. The other model I was looking at is the magellan explorist GC.
  23. My oregon 200 will not stay on past the screen that says saving waypoints, routes, etc...I have tried everything from switching to new batteries, plugging it into my macbook, and attempting to do a master reset. It won't even let me to a master reset, it just continues to turn off. I need help really bad!!! What do I do next???
  24. HI I have been using iphone until now, but just excitedly received my Garim oregon 200 this week. Well I have had a lot of trouble downloading PQ into it. (and am seriously loving the ease of the iphone and wondering why I bothered to buy a GPS!) Please help me to overcome my problem. I have spent the last few days searching forums/garmin for answers, GSAK is recommended, but that seems to be for windows. I use Mac and have garmin oregon 200. PLease keep any answers relatively easy as I am learning as I go and not very technically minded. Thanks. I have manages to download caches one by one from website directly to it, but obviously that is not optimal I can download PQ OK. They say to "unzip it" using a winzip or something, but that seems to be just for windows ?. I can not find anything similar for a mac. I can put the file on the desktop and open it and see 2 separate files, caches and waypoints. When I connect my GPS and drag those files to it it says "memory full" even though the GOS has no or just a few caches on it, I also installed maccache . I somehow put the PQ in there on a "cache list" ( but now I can't remember how!) anyway, then I try to press the "to GPS " but a message comes back "gpsbabel quit unexpectantly" I did not even realize I had this gpsbabel. But I googled it, and "installed " or reinstalled it as case may be, restarted mac and same message happens. Thank you very much if you have read this far and can help.
