  1. Hi folks!, Don't laugh. The Explorist 200 was free and it has been a very trusty little unit. Anyway, the accuracy is ok, just the clock has seemed to slip 3 seconds. I had this problem before and fixed it with a recommendation from this forum. I did a search here but can't seem to find anything on this particular subject. I did a clear and dump but it didn't work for the clock (and I had two WAAS birds, now I only have one. I knew that might happen). Time to go shopping I think. Wayne
  2. downloaded some geocaches to my gps, no longer need them, how do i remove/delete them from my gps? this is new to me and my gps didnt come with a geocaching for dummies manual. looked on line for users manual and no where in it can i find how to remove geocaches.............help
  3. Hi everyone! We are very new to this. Haven't even found our first cache yet. We have an Oregon 200 and the maps seem to be horrible!!! I've done some searching on the web, but haven't figured out how to update the maps yet. Can someone help me with this??? It would be great if it was cheap to do too! lol Thanks! April TeamDavisPerson
  4. Wow. This Oregon is so much easier to use than the Venture HC I accidentally donated to a river. The touch screen is easy to use. The paperless geocaching is great. I loaded 100 or so closest to my house in no time - and it's so easy to find them and the details and whatnot. The screen is huge in comparison and the resolution is wonderful. It's very clear and easy to use. My only problem so far is that I need to add a TON of memory. That's the main feature I wanted - was the ability to add a card. I'll pick up an 8GB card on the way home and play some more tonight. I'm hoping to figure out some Google Earth transfers (both ways). Once I've got it out in the field some and found a few caches with it, I'll write a proper review. I've also got to upgrade the firmware (O/S?). I intend to get City Navigator and hope that I'll be able to use it to get close to a cache, then switch over to the 100:1 Topo map to get from the parking spot to the cache. If it'll do that smoothly and effectively, I will be major-league stoked. Also, if I can put in waypoints I find on Google Earth to be able to drive to them and then hike to the next, I will be thrilled. I've been spending a lot of time on Google Earth looking for new fishing locations, and would love to be able to work it out with the GPSr. - Zurfco p.s. Thanks to everyone who have been so helpful to me already. I'm sure I'll have a million more questions. Your patience with a new GPSr user is greatly appreciated.
  5. i cant get it to down load description in using GSAK do i need to use something diffrent or am i doing something wrong?
  6. After some of you guys had good luck with the free NUVI 200 giveaway, I decided to give it a go. Signed up, which does include your personal info (which made me nervous at first). But, I figured Discover is a big name company and wouldnt mind having a Discover card anyway. Signed up for it and bought grocerys and a tank of gas. Not exactly sure how long ago it was, (maybe 2 months ago or so) and I get a box in the mail, which is a brand new NUVI 200. Unbelievable. I figured I would get junk mail for sure and havent yet (well anymore than I already do), and never get a junk call on my cell phone because I didnt use my correct cell phone number. I am normally pretty reluctant about these things, but I actually like my Discover card and didnt have to jump through hoops or anything to get a GPS. This NUVI goes well with my Vista HCX, which Im letting the 'ol lady use. Im not recommending this at all, just told everybody I would report back on my personal experience. Glad I did it!!
  7. Hi, After a few months I am upgrading my GPS unit so I have this Triton 200 for sale. The unit has very light use, I don't have the original box but I have manual and CD that came with it.
  8. I have a 10-year old Magellan that I used for hunting and fishing. Old and slow. I started geocaching with my kids over the weekend. They love it. Spent all weekend (evenings) researching an excuse to get a new GPS. I think I want the Garmin Oregon. I definitely want color, I like the touchscreen, I want to be able to choos which maps I want, topo is very nice (I'm also an adventure racer, and although GPS's are a no-no it would be great for training). I want it to work well for: - hunting (mark deer stand, wander around, get back) - fishing (enter coordinates and go to) - geocaching (not really sure what I need, sounds like "paperless" geocashing would be nice). I am a techie-type person, but for the life of me after reading the reviews, specs, etc. on the 3 models (200, 300, 400) I can't find an answer to these questions. Please help. - Why is the amount of RAM important? They all store the same amount of waypoints and geocaches. - If the maps come on a separate card, what's the RAM used for? - If it's important, then I'd conclude the 300 is a better value considering how much more RAM it has for not much more $ (24Mb vs. 850Mb). - Does the 400 come with built-in maps or does it come with a map card? - If it's built-in, does that mean I can add a card and have multiple maps available at the same time, i.e buy the 400t and add a lake map? - Can I recharge the rechargeable batteries while in the GPS? Why don't they make these things rechargeable??? What a pain. Just like my walkie-talkies, cell phone, etc. I want to just plug it in to charge it. Basically, why would I buy a 200, 300 or 400 if the map cards are ~$100 each? Any help to a newbie would be greatly appreciated.
  9. i've been doing a bit of reading on the Oregon 200 and it looks like a very nice upgrade to my Legend HCx. the Legend has been my first GPS and it's served me well although there are features on the Oregon that look very tempting. 99% of my caching is paperless and for that i use my iPhone with the Geocaching app. it works great but i have to load caches onto the HCx and then "Find" the GC codes on the phone and save them on my SAVED page before i head out (or while i'm out)... using the Oregon would simplify this process as well as allow me to save the precious battery life on the iPhone and not risk having it fall in a puddle or onto rocks (which it has). i'm just wondering if i should move to the Oregon, or stick with the HCx/iPhone combo. has anyone else made the same comparison and gone with one or the other? thanks
  10. Does anyone know how to download multiple caches at once. One at a time is tedious.
  11. The Pharos PDR 200 has a WinCE 5.0 OS. Does anyone know if you can change the mapping s/w maybe put Wherigo player on it? Just wondering because my Legend HCX doesn't support Wherigo and currently the pharos is around $70. Thanks!
  12. Hi All, Before I bought the device I thought I would get accuracies within a few feet in in around where I live (Cincinnati) with the WAAS system. I buddy of mine who works for the city told me a couple of years ago they use it and got accuracies that good (for locating things in the field). Am I not using it right (I do have WAAS turned on)? Or is it still reasonable to see 15-20 foot accuracy even though I'm definately near cell phone towers. (Maybe they all don't work with WAAS?) Thanks, dan
  13. Hi All, Struggling with getting this to do exactly what I want. If I just keep caching and loading in the file after each trip I get a huge list of caches on GC.com - even the ones I logged already. If I "clear the whole list" then GC.com jsut reloads the full list from my garmin. What I want is to just to get the newer caches. One way I did this was to keep 1 (the last) geocache from my las trip on the garmin. I deleted the full list of GC.com and loaded the 1. After the next hunt then I get the list of new caches (+1). Am I doing this wrong? If not, I'd like to make a develop request for GC.som. Have it keep track of the day of the last caches loaded and only load newer ones. But don't require I keep the whole list online (it can be hundred long and u have to scroll to the bottom each time!) Is this the correct way/place to make such a request/suggestion? cache_n_out
  14. I have a Magellan Explorist 500 and it works for me but my friend is looking for a GPS for geocaching and he's not as computer saavy as I am. His budget is $200 or less and wants to know what the group would recommend. Thanks
  15. Can you load GPX files on SD card to do paperless caching on a NUVI 200 Sd card instead of into favorites and will it work as well. Just received unit and looking at all the posts on Nuvi 200 I could find I didn't see any info on doing this. Using the latest GSAK. All help appreciated. I have DL the POi Loader Etc and looked at the tutorials ???? Thanks Chuck :[
  16. Meridian Color GPS Lots of extras, 1- 512 Mb SD 2- 128Mb SD 1- 64Mb SD 1- PC cable/cigarette lighter adapter Mapsend streets and destination Canada
  17. I have looked all over this World Wide Web and I am still having trouble getting a map that I downloaded from the GPSfiledepot to my SD card to be visible in my unit. The oregon only sees the basemap it comes with and I can not see the more detailed map that I downloaded. I tried disabling the base map that came with the unit "WW Autoroute Basemap NR" but I did not see any roads when I did that. Do I need to move things around via my PC instead of the unit? If so, I would be ever so grateful if someone explained it to me. Thanx Bill
  18. At the end of next month we are going on a long holiday (vacation) and expect to find maybe 200 plus caches. What options do people use for when you get back from a trip with a heap of caches to log?? I've been playing with the GSAK macros CachmateLogging and PPC_CachemateLog but I can't get either of them to work as I am not that computer literate. Are there any other methods that people use that might be easier to learn (other than a boring cut and paste log that is the same for each cache!) Annie
  19. I use ITATN to put stats on my profile. It tracks milestones. Is 200 one of those milestones? I'm at 199 now and want to do a cache that I can take a good picture at for a milestone. It's related to my user name. If it is a milestone, I'll be forced to go on a longer, steeper hike Friday than I wanted to.
  20. I bought an oregon 200 and everything works very well, but when i do multicaches i need to go to certain coordinates. I dont know how to do that wit the oregon. Can anyone help?
  21. Love the utility, and have the SD card with topo and mapping capability, works superbly in CO. But without the compass feature, the display wanders dramatically when at a standstill; the terrain does not always permit moving fast enough to enable the gps compass, particularly in inclement weather on rough terrain. Any suggestions?
  22. awhile back i purchased a bicycle mount for magellan triton 200/300/400/500 for a friend, only to find out that his gps isn't any of these models. anyways, i was cleaning my garage yesterday and found the mount (still in the package). i have no use for it (i don't even own a magellan), but figured that there's gotta be someone out there who could use this. according to amazon.com, the retail price for this item is $29.99. i'm just in the process of getting rid of a bunch of stuff i have around the house asap, so i'm willing to just give it away for free. it's brand new. the package is a little beat up since it spent a winter in my messy garage, but the mount itself has never been used, so it should be in perfect condition. anyways, to get a better idea about the mount, here's the amazon page: http://www.amazon.com/Magellan-Triton-Bike...7452&sr=8-2 if you are interested, send me a message with an address and i'll get it in the mail asap and i'll send you notification that it's been sent. thank god for spring cleaning, huh?
  23. How do I download coodornates into the Garmin nuvi 200? If this is possible. Also, how do I deleat them from the unit?
  24. How do i delete Geocaches from my unit?
