  1. I have been compairing low cost paperless devices and I can see alot of places Oregons are not geocashing frendly but I see otherplaces people saying that they are great.. whats up? I can get a Lowrance Endura™ Out&Back ($180) or a Garmin oregon 200 ($220) for not much more.. which is gonna be the paperless geocashers dream?
  2. My non-profit, Big Love Little Hearts', mission is to make sure that all children with heart defects get the lifesaving surgery they need regardless of their economic status or country of origin. 1 in 100 children are born with a heart defect - that means roughly one million children are born every year with a heart defect and half of them will need surgery to survive. February 7 -14 is Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Awareness Week. As part of our Awareness Campaign we have minted 200 geocoins that look like our logo and we need your help!! We are looking for volunteers to hide our coins in caches all across the US and Canada...our goal is for them to be found again and again, so our only wish is that you don't hide them anywhere too difficult to find If you would like to participate, please email me at: erosenberg@biglovelittlehearts.org ASAP. The coins need to be hidden during CHD Awareness Week so we are mailing them out in the next few days. We hope you'll help us spread the word - CHD's are the most common birth defect and the #1 reason infants die in their first year of life! Peace, Estrella Rosenberg Founder, Big Love Little Hearts
  3. Hello, I recently added some maps to my garmin oregon 200 and deleted the maps to switch to paid maps and it deleted my basemap. I was wondering if anyone has the basemap for these units, I believe the oregons all have the same basemaps. Thanks in advance, I did a search but didn't really help.
  4. Looking for help from the pros, found an Oregon 300 on EBay for around $200, have read enough of the forums to think the 300 would be a good unit for me to own, but not sure of the pitfalls of buying used to save $100+ on the purchase. What should I ask the seller or be thinking about? Accessories? Manuals? How old? Versions? Maps? I have no clue. TBC
  5. Does anyone know how to download multiple caches at once. One at a time is tedious.
  6. I apologize but this might be a bit long. Here's my problem: I can save about 200 gpx files apparently on my Garmin Oregon 200 and about 2000 geocaches in addition to 1000 waypoints. It says I can save about 200 gpx files as long as I don't exceed the waypoints and I probably have about 200 caches saved but I have only manually saved a handful of waypoints. The Garmin site says: "This error message is appearing because you are exceeding the number of .GPX files (route and waypoint data) that the unit can hold/accept. The unit can hold up to a maximum of 200 GPX files as long as the maximum number of 1000 Waypoints and 50 Routes are not exceeded." I have not saved more than 20 waypoints. So I'm guessing that when I load the caches, it is also loading extra waypoints for parking and other stuff that I don't know what they are. They are not GC codes and some have blue flags on the map. I don't know what they are for. When I plug my unit to my pc, there is no folder for waypoints, just gpx files so I don't know how to delete them without manually doing them one by one on my unit. The gpx folder showed some of my saved tracks that my gps is not showing. The Oregon only shows the current track button and 2 saved tracks. It says it's saving the track but then says I've exceeded the maximum.... and won't show the saved track. Now, I have a 2GB sd card but it's not saving to the card. If I exceed the internal memory amount, why won't it save the excess to the card? How do I load caches without the extra waypoints? I don't understand why I can save 2000 caches but only 200 gpx files. That doesn't make sense at all. Any advice and info would be much appreciated. Sorry for being long and maybe confusing.
  7. Hi All, Before I bought the device I thought I would get accuracies within a few feet in in around where I live (Cincinnati) with the WAAS system. I buddy of mine who works for the city told me a couple of years ago they use it and got accuracies that good (for locating things in the field). Am I not using it right (I do have WAAS turned on)? Or is it still reasonable to see 15-20 foot accuracy even though I'm definately near cell phone towers. (Maybe they all don't work with WAAS?) Thanks, dan
  8. Hi All, Struggling with getting this to do exactly what I want. If I just keep caching and loading in the file after each trip I get a huge list of caches on GC.com - even the ones I logged already. If I "clear the whole list" then GC.com jsut reloads the full list from my garmin. What I want is to just to get the newer caches. One way I did this was to keep 1 (the last) geocache from my las trip on the garmin. I deleted the full list of GC.com and loaded the 1. After the next hunt then I get the list of new caches (+1). Am I doing this wrong? If not, I'd like to make a develop request for GC.som. Have it keep track of the day of the last caches loaded and only load newer ones. But don't require I keep the whole list online (it can be hundred long and u have to scroll to the bottom each time!) Is this the correct way/place to make such a request/suggestion? cache_n_out
  9. Has anyone used the Garmin GB Discoverer (Southern England) ... ? I like the detail of the software but is it suitable for geocaching? Additionally, to get the full use out of the Garmin 200, does this software run 3D views? At the moment, I am using some free software from Talkie Toaster UK but the map seems to lack detail. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated!
  10. I recently bought a oregon 200 and somehow I have deleted the basemap that was preloaded does anyone know where I can download a new basemap. thanks
  11. I just got the Oregon 200, if I use the send to gps from the cache page it works fine. When I try to send over a gpx file I dont get any of them on the gps. I have always used easygps, when I try to send the caches to the gps from easygps, nothing goes to the gps. I also tried just dragging the file to the gps but it had no information about the cache, except the cords, no name or anything. Any help here would be great, thanks Travis
  12. Saw this while surfing this morning, a Bushnell ONIX 200 GPS System with TruView Navigation for $59.99 on http://www.woot.com. I check this site everyday and they seem to have some pretty good deals. Figured if someone was looking for a gps this might be an ok one to start with. Of course if your looking to get it you will have to do it today (12-23) because they change what they are selling at midnight everyday.
  13. I have looked all over this World Wide Web and I am still having trouble getting a map that I downloaded from the GPSfiledepot to my SD card to be visible in my unit. The oregon only sees the basemap it comes with and I can not see the more detailed map that I downloaded. I tried disabling the base map that came with the unit "WW Autoroute Basemap NR" but I did not see any roads when I did that. Do I need to move things around via my PC instead of the unit? If so, I would be ever so grateful if someone explained it to me. Thanx Bill
  14. I have an opportunity to buy a Mangellan Explorist 200 Handheld GPS for 50 bucks. The unit looks new, seems to function fine, comparing it to my blackberry GPS for accuracy. It was a gift for someone that doesn't "do outdoors." Bottom line it for me guys. I am brand new, a bench mark chaser and I want to make a small investment before I go to the big dawgs. Do you think 50 bucks is too much for this unit? He's got the carrying case and manual. Let me hear from you.
  15. Love the utility, and have the SD card with topo and mapping capability, works superbly in CO. But without the compass feature, the display wanders dramatically when at a standstill; the terrain does not always permit moving fast enough to enable the gps compass, particularly in inclement weather on rough terrain. Any suggestions?
  16. Hello, I am looking at getting a new Oregon 200 for caching, Gander Mountain has them in their Black Friday add for just a mere $199.99 a $250 savings! I currently use a GPS60 but would like to do a couple of where i go caches if it will do so, if it doesnt I will just stick to the GPS 60. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Rob
  17. I just realizes yesterday that a cache that was loaded from GSAK into my Oregon almost a year ago, did not automatically update new coordinates put on the cache by the CO. Does anyone know what I need to do to ensure that the latest coordinates are being loaded properly? If this is the wrong place to ask, I'll try the GSAK forums, no problem. I just wasn't sure where the error was....I am probably just doing something wrong and one of you smart people will be able to help. Thanks in advance.
  18. How do i delete Geocaches from my unit?
  19. Have you Garmin Oregon 200? Can uses game Wherigo please?
  20. I have a brand new Garmin Oregon 200 for sale. Never used and sealed Topo Canada DVD. This is the latest version. Will take $330.00 for it all. I am able to ship it anywhere in Canada, I don't know about the US, but if interested I can look. This unit is great for Geocaching, I use the same unit for myself and love it. Mike 314tps@live.ca

  24. Bonjour.
