  1. Cav Scout was banned, I was looking forward to doing his Earthcache when I went down to Washington DC. I noticed it was archived by Brad W. Looking at his account, every single one of his caches were archived. Why did this happen? Why was he banned? And why did so many caches that are still out there and still exist get archived. I can understand the 200 earthcaches he owned, you can't answer the questions if you can't E-mail. But, why archive the physical caches? What happened that I am missing? This happened recently they were archived on December 5th.
  2. its less than 2 months old and wont turn on.(well stay on) it goes through the motions and just as the home page would turn on it shuts off. Its acting the same way as it would when the batteries are dead. it also will not connect to the computer with usb, any ideas??
  3. I am really new to geocaching but my wife found it and now we are hooked. We started with an old Magellan Blazer12 then I got a Garmin eTrex Legend from work to use for a bit. Needless to say, the eTrex blows the Magellan out of the water. Now I am looking for something to go paperless with and auto load my caches. I don't want to spend anymore than $200 for a unit. I have found numerous refurbished Garmin units with 1-yr manufacture warranties on ebay. The two that I am focused on is the Colorado 300 or 400i (I know, the "i" stands for Inland waterways but I am going to load in better maps) and the Oregon 200. I am having a real hard time deciding between the two and I know both units are really good. The big difference is the Colorado has the wheel instead of the touch screen and the Oregon has the newer satellite "hotfix" feature. I am looking for some input from someone that actually uses one of these units for geocaching. If someone has owned and used both units, that would be even better. I would greatly appreciate any input from members of this forum. Thanks, Chris562 and Tawana730
  4. What are some of the best GPSr under $250?
  5. HI I have been using iphone until now, but just excitedly received my Garim oregon 200 this week. Well I have had a lot of trouble downloading PQ into it. (and am seriously loving the ease of the iphone and wondering why I bothered to buy a GPS!) Please help me to overcome my problem. I have spent the last few days searching forums/garmin for answers, GSAK is recommended, but that seems to be for windows. I use Mac and have garmin oregon 200. PLease keep any answers relatively easy as I am learning as I go and not very technically minded. Thanks. I have manages to download caches one by one from website directly to it, but obviously that is not optimal I can download PQ OK. They say to "unzip it" using a winzip or something, but that seems to be just for windows ?. I can not find anything similar for a mac. I can put the file on the desktop and open it and see 2 separate files, caches and waypoints. When I connect my GPS and drag those files to it it says "memory full" even though the GOS has no or just a few caches on it, I also installed maccache . I somehow put the PQ in there on a "cache list" ( but now I can't remember how!) anyway, then I try to press the "to GPS " but a message comes back "gpsbabel quit unexpectantly" I did not even realize I had this gpsbabel. But I googled it, and "installed " or reinstalled it as case may be, restarted mac and same message happens. Thank you very much if you have read this far and can help.
  6. So, I picked up an Oregon 200 for 100 bucks today. I am a relative noob, but isn't this a fantastic deal? It should be here within a week and I can't wait to get out there for some Iowa winter caching! Up to this point, we have been using our BBs with pretty good results. We were starting to think about doing some hides, so I thought it was time to take the plunge. I really want to make sure our coords are spot on. I was just looking for a little feedback from the community on the perks of this unit, or anything I need to watch out for. Thanks a lot and happy caching!

  8. I have the above sat nav, can I use it to geocache? What do I need to enter - I've tried entering a number, ie, GC2WCTZ as a postcode but it doesn't find anything. What am I doing wrong?
  9. Hello all i got my new GPS (Oregon 200) this weekend!!! I was supper exceeded but to be truthful i was kinda disappointed with the streets and roads on it or better yet the LACK of them in my area. Basically, there is none on it other than MAJOR highways. How do i get streets on my Oregon 200. Thanks for any help!
  10. How many geocaches can I load into my Oregon 200?
  11. Howdy, I have a Garmin Oregon 300 with TOPO software for sale. I'm asking $200 for it. The unit is in great shape...there are 12 specks on the case that are lighter in color than the rest of the case, but nothing major. I changed over to a Colorado 400t, because I use GPS to hunt as well as geocache, and didn't want to risk scratching the touch screen. MERRY CHRISTMAS! BT
  12. Ok...feeling really stupid here.....I have an Oregon 200 with a microSD card. If I plug the GPS into my computer I see the extra storage area provided by the SD card. But if I store caches on this card, how do I access this information from my Oregon while out geocaching? I see no way to do this...so, what is the point of the card if I can't get to the information while "in the field?" Help.....what am I doing wrong?!!? Thanks in advance!
  13. ola boa tarde a todos venho pedir-vos ajuda procuro uma loja em portugal que venda o cabo usb para o meu triton 200 se alguem souber de alguma coisa que me diga por favor . boa tarde e obrigado
  14. I'm relatively new with this GPS, and GPS's in general. I use the Oregon 200 (which up til now has been quite good) and usually have a Blackberry with Geocache Navigator going as well. We're driving through town the other day and I notice that the Oregon is showing our path is about 15 metres parallel to the road. My friend who has an older Garmon 60Csx(?) says I may need to recalibrate the GPS but we couldn't figure out if that was possible. Also the distance to cache on approach was way different than the Blackberry and way off the mark much of the time. How do I rectify this problem?? Thanks
  15. Finally getting my first GPS and I have a budget of $200. I found a used Garmin Dakota 10 for $200. If I want to go paperless, would this be my best option? Wide open for any suggestions. Thanks all!
  16. Using GPS trackmaker and my Oregon 200. The realtime navigation feature don't seam to work. Any ideas?
  17. Other then screen size I can't see much difference between the two. Except the Oregon $200 is bringing $100 bucks less on ebay, I can get it for $200 vs. the Dakota 20 which will run me $300. Seems odd the "lower" model is bringing less money. Experiences, differences?
  18. Recently purchased an Oregan 200. Went to geocaching.com and downloaded several paperless caches to internal memory. Everything worked fine by just clicking the box next to the listing and clicking the next icon over to send to my GPS. Problem is now that they are on my GPS I have no way of deleting or clearing from memory now that I have logged as a find. I have searched all over the menus and can't find a delete option. Any ideas? I would like to download a list and as I find caches mark as waypoint and then delete or upload to a software program. They are currently downloaded into Geocache Folder that is preloaded on Oregan 200. Would appreciate anyones expertise and suggestions.
  19. Is there any way to use Garmin's mapsource topo 2008 to place maps in the Oregon 200?
  20. One of the leaders of our local cache group posted this. Figured I'd pass it on..... LINK Later!
  21. I am in the beginning stages of developing two seperate but mostly unrelated earthcaches with the ideal location for both being within 200 feet of each other. Is this allowed? If you'd like to know more, see below. First, the location is a unique spot located off the interstate in North Dakota. There is an informational display there with facts about wind development in ND and also a single modern wind turbine. This spot also happens to be located on a distinctive glacial end moraine. Originally, I started out to develop an EC about the end moraine. Scoping out the site, I thought it may also be interesting to do another EC about why it's so windy in North Dakota (part of which is the lack of terrain roughness and locally the elevated position of this particular spot). The site has minimal amenities, basically just a parking lot with the signage, surrounded by farm land. I would place the wind EC by the sign and the end moraine EC at the opposite edge of the parking lot. Yes, it is possible to relocate the Wind EC to one of many wind developments in ND, but not all have informational displays or are on a well-traveled path. Of course this is also contingent on land owner permission and approval. Just wondering if it's even allowed or I shouldn't waste my time? Thank you!
  22. I got my new Oregon 200 in the mail a few days ago, and I used it for the first time yesterday!! For the most part, I find the operation to be very intuitive, which is nice, because the user guide leaves something to be desired... There are some things I can't figure out how to do: - In geocaching mode, once I have selected a cache to navigate to, how do I get the GPS to display the distance and direction to the cache? - After I have found a geocache, I enter a few notes to remind me about the find. How do I access these notes later when I am logging online? - When I look at my list of found caches, they don't seem to be in any logical order. How can I distinguish new finds from old finds? (for the purpose of logging online)
  23. I have a Oregon 200 Garmin and have been geo caching with it, I can NOT figure out how to delete the FOUND geo caches from it without setting it back to manufacture settings or to delete all the geo caches from it at once.....my 60cx was a whole lot user friendly as far as figureing this out, even read the manual and it doesn't tell you anything anyone out there have one and know how to do this PLEASE let me know.
  24. I am using a Garmin Oregon 200 and I installed a 2 Gb card but no where in the GPSr is there an option to even say that there is a card there. I bought the trail TOPO from Garmin and it wont download because it says there is only 22Mb available on the unit when there is a whole 2Gb waiting. Can anyone help me with this?
  25. Well I have decided that I would like either the garmin 62s or the delorme pn-60 but I don't have the available cash to buy one new nor do I have the patience to save up for a couple months or wait for a great sale. So I thought I would post a WTB here and see if there are any good deals on a used model. Willing to take a generation older model to get started. Thanks for looking. All offers will be considered.
