  1. Open source: You can download the source code of any of my Wherigo.com-hosted cartridges from the cartridge's page. For example, for Battleship, look at the last link in the first column on the page: "Download Source". Battleship is a good cartridge to look at the source because it's very well documented in the author script section. Anything I make these days will be well-documented for people to learn from. Clue: Interesting idea. The who, what, and where could be randomized when the cartridge starts. The author could choose where they want the zones and how many, considering I'd say the "where" would always be the zone occupied by the player. I'd need to review the board game's rules more. To prevent people from leaving a zone and reentering to make another guess until the cartridge tells them only the zone is wrong (the player would continue to see the only the zone as the wrong guess), I'd force a player to visit another zone prior to making another guess. Let's see... I'm going to type out my thoughts as I'm thinking of them. Perhaps it'll be helpful to see my thought process. I want authors to be able to influence the number of zones used in the game. I can have the cartridge gather all zones upon startup, excluding a specially-named zone. I could instead create a table of zones by name upon startup. I think I'll go with the first option because that would require less work from people making their own derived versions. I should handle save states this time. I typically don't worry about save states, but let's make things more complicated. I'd need only to save the game's status (in progress or completed) and the solution (who, what, where). Oh, and so people can't get around the requirement of visiting another zone to make another guess, I'll need to store something about the last zone visited. These would need to eventually be mapped to string variables for saving. Restoring would need to reverse the process, converting the string back into the objects (technically, they're lua tables, but I'll call them objects here). I guess I can make the who and what editable for derived versions. The who can be all NPCs (zCharacter) that exist in the cartridge and what can be all items (zItem) in the cartridge. Doing things this way will make it easy for authors to create derived cartridges and affect the number of each. Thus, the who, what, and where will never be known by the code. The only thing I'll need is a reference to the zone with the cache because this must be excluded from the location list. All messages the cartridge shows must be isolated and configurable so authors making derived works can translate them. So, again, no hard-coded messages. When I need to show a name of something, I can either use "{0}" or "@zone" to indicate where I'll insert text. When I'm making the cartridge, if I'm thinking in a C# mood, I'll use "{0}" due to thinking about String.Replace. If I'm thinking about Razor, I'll use "@zone" or something. At the moment, I'm leaning towards "@zone" because that makes it evident with what the text will be replaced. (I can't say "what the text will be replaced with" because I believe that's a dangling preposition, which is a grammatical error. If you've wondered why I phrase some things the way I do, it's to avoid errors in grammar.) I could be fancy and have an item that is like the Clue guess sheet. It would cross off things you've guessed. I'll be lazy and expect the player to do this. Supporting this would introduce additional complexity. I believe I'd handle this by creating one string that would store either a zero or one for what has been guessed. When saving or restoring state, I could sort all objects alphabetically. The zeros and ones would align based on the alphabetical order. Let's not do this. When someone enters a zone, I guess I'll automatically ask for the who and what. I believe the Garmin Oregon has that fifteen or sixteen character limit with multiple-choice inputs. I should truncate all who and what names to this maximum safe length. I guess that's about it. Making something like this might be a nice Christmas present to this community. The local cachers would hate on me if I were to put one out locally, so I might do so just to mess with them. They don't know how blessed they are at having so many creative and unusual cartridges in their area. Uno: I'll decline this. As it's a multiplayer game involving strategy against other players, I'm not sure this would make a good game in Wherigo. If you could come up with a way to adapt it so it's fun in Wherigo, please outline it. You can see how I outlined Clue above.
  2. how i download Pocket Queries direct to garmin 64st
  3. I like that it does location tracking. I do the same with my Garmin Oregon, but leaving it on for the entire time, it's likely that the batteries will go dead (which they usually do).
  4. There are 40,000 active caches in Florida, which I have culled down to less than 3000 I actually want to seek at some point. I can update their status before loading onto my Garmin and my phone. I have other databases for the rest of the country for when I travel. Without GSAK to manage and update a curated database I would probably quit geocaching.
  5. I bought one from Shop Geocaching to check it out (and to get all of the free trackables) Still learning what it can do with the Garmin Explore app. It'll probably just be clipped to my backpack and run all day when I go for a hike, or bike, or out geocaching.
  6. Take it up with GS because they definitely don't agree with you. Cache hidden 2010. Co Joined 12/13/2009Last Visited 01/11/2020 Looks abandoned by all the rules for cache placement. Former logs: Cache needs maintenance badly! I couldn’t write on the log book properly. Paper so wet. Found both containers, 1 has no lid and is drenched through, signed log that was dry, TFTC So the second container was probably a throwdown. But even that has issues. Logs show issues back to 2022. You need a responsible owner to take care of any and all issues. The area has plenty of caches and is regularly frequented by finders. My guess is in a year or two another cache will replace this one, hopefully sooner.
  7. I have two old Windows 7 PCs, both running the latest version of Firefox. On one, the maps work fine, on the other, the older of the two, they're coming up blank. I suspect it might be a problem with the underlying graphics hardware (or drivers) more than Windows 7 per se. The older machine probably dates from around 2010 so it's pretty ancient by technology standards.
  8. My Android phone alerts me to emails. It then "pings" my Garmin watch where I can read them, with a little difficulty, if I don't have my glasses handy.
  9. Yes, I know this text, unfortunately I am at the stage of choosing Garmin and I would like to be sure that the new Garmins still support photo.
  10. If you would like to take some time to test, here is an instruction on how you can do it: You can also take advantage of geocache photos on your Garmin handheld, JPEG only, need to be placed on the handheld’s mass storage in the following manner: Photos \Garmin\GeocachePhotos\Last Character\Second To Last Character\Full Code\ Spoiler Photos <Photos Path>\Spoilers\ For example, photos for a geocache with code OXZTXGC would be placed under the path \Garmin\GeocachePhotos\C\G\OXZTXGC\ And spoilers would be placed under \Garmin\GeocachePhotos\C\G\OXZTXGC\Spoilers If the geocache has only three characters total, a 0 (zero) is used for the second to last character. For example, photos for a geocache with code OXR would be placed under the path \Garmin\GeocachePhotos\R\0\OXR\
  11. As I mentioned above, I use my phone if I want to see images for a cache and have never tried to figure out a way to port them to my 66. There is no \Garmin\GeocachePhotos\ folder in the GGZ files I generate using GSAK, and I'm not aware of a way to create one using that method. I'm sure you could manually add such a folder, but I'm not sure how you would properly access any images you put in it on the device.
  12. Were you able to import the photos of caches to the 66? Can you check if you have a \Garmin\GeocachePhotos\ folder and if you can display photos as a description for geocaches?
  13. I don’t own a 67. However, I own a 66 that most definitely supports GGZ, and its manual also omits any reference to GGZ: https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/gpsmap66i/EN-US/GUID-7A0A0748-A379-4FE5-9D3A-277C4B406A1E.html
  14. Did you upload GGZ files to GPSMAP67? the documentation says that GGZ is no longer supported https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-5724F4C0-7557-4C51-BF07-54A567FA4600/EN-US/GUID-7A0A0748-A379-4FE5-9D3A-277C4B406A1E.html BTW GGZ may contain a \Garmin\GeocachePhotos\ folder structure with photos
  15. I got a new GPSr: Garmin Etrex 32X. My old GPSr: Garmin Etrex 30X. On the Etrex 30X, when I uploaded my POIs, they would show on the map. With the Etrex 32X, they do not show on the map. How do i get them to show on the map?
  16. I have created and named a list that I can see in both the Geocache App and on Geocaching.com, I can also see the list exists on my Garmin 67i but when I press enter on the list the list is highlighted as not synced, when I enter the list it gives me the option to sync, when I press enter it seemingly starts to sync then on page stating Basic geocache details downloaded with continue highlighted at the bottom of the screen, when I then press enter it takes me back to the original list which states not synced and I have to start all over again and this then becomes a continuous loop, can anyone help me get out of this madhouse please ? If it helps I can download photos of each of the screens !
  17. To answer the question: any model which supports Garmin Live can do that. Some of the models are: eTrex SE, Oregon 7xx, Montana 7xx
  18. I looked at a couple of your logs. If you would limit you comments to finding the cache you wouldn't need such a Garmin.
  19. Jusr for you: Hi. Is there a Garmin device that supports adding longer text than "Found it"? Where I can enter a long text, log, that I always use to log the geocache. Well thank you.
  20. No, nothing moved. The only reason I considered changing anything is because when the second correct coordinates are determined they show when plotted on the Direction to cache map they show at a wrong spot. And apparently for some also on the tool they use to find the coordinates -- iPhone , Garmin etc. BUT some have found it and said coordinates are okay. I recently found a puzzle cache description with a puzzle which gave me ideas. Maybe leave as a multi and tweak the description
  21. Actually this averaging should be done on the Garmin unit itself whilst creating the waypoint. Re: Pulling the waypoints: Set your unit's USB connection to "Mass Storage Mode". Re: GSAK support: just use another supported Montana unit in GSAK's settings. Hans
  22. That's definitely wrong. You may open any GPX waypoint files from GSAK's gui. There are macros to fetch waypoints from Garmin units as well. Happy Learning Hans
  23. GSAK is a geocache database, not a waypoint database. It does support Montana (I use one myself) but only for geocaches. To retreive waypoints, you need a program like Garmin BaseCamp, EasyGPS, or any other program which supports gpx files. There are even online solutions, like Garmin Explore. You can find the waypoints you created in the folder \Garmin\GPX\ on your Montana. The file name contains the date you created the waypoints.
  24. I'm not sure if that's a declarative or interrogative statement, but perhaps is would be more appropriate in a group where the native language is closer to your native one. (Sorry. That's not judgmental; it's just statistics based on our readership/participation..) This group is dominated by English speakers. Your best chance of getting help - or getting appreciation if you're giving help - is to communicate in English, even if that means using something like translate.google.com. I think you're asking if any Garmin can record a default 'found it' long with additional text. If that's the case, it really is up to whatever software (GSAK, etc.) sits between your GPS and the upload API to search and replace that text on the way.
  25. Hi. Existing a garmin device that support add a longer text than "Found it"? Presets log which I always use to logging a geocache. And I can set this log in Garmin too. Thanks
