  1. Hi all, I hope this may help. I had the same problem and I'm running Windows 8. I have found that if I use the tile window to connect to web (IE for me)I cant send to GPS or send a query to the website. If I use the IE icon on the actual desktop I have absolutely no problems at all. This was discovered after literally hours of frustration trying to convince the Geocache website that I did have the Magellan communicator program or the Garmin program. Good luck with it.
  2. I'm having the same problem still. From the map, I get the message that the Garmin Communicator is not installed. I'm working with the latest version and it seems to work fine from the cache listing. I've deleted and reinstalled the communicator, and am working with Windows 8.1 and IE 11.0.8. I've attempted everything suggested above and gotten no joy. Anyone else have an idea or still having the same issue? Thanks,
  3. Have same problem here to. I'm using: - garmin etrex 30 - firefox latest - latest garmin communicator - windows 8.1 latest - chrome not working at all for me Hope they can fix it
  4. I think everyone had been a little quick on the assumption here. He is talking about a PQ not the individual download issue. All the download problems with the garmin communicator and browsers are for single caches. We need more info. I have no problem downloading my My Finds PQ in Windows 8 (or any Win 7 for that matter since the browser isn't involved. Since you say it is My Finds PQ can you tell us exactly what you did. Can you see the PQ on the Available for download on the website? If you can one click should automatically start the download to the designted download folder on you PC. Does that happen?
  5. If on a windows machine you can check the device manager to make sure your garmin device shows up in the list and see if it is having any errors there. You can also check garmin's support site for your device to make sure you have the latest drivers. Keep in mind you have to have Garmin Communicator (also available on Garmin's support site) installed for GC to load caches directly to the device. Good Luck!
  7. I'm having much the same problem. I just hard to reformat my computer. It came with Windows Vista & a free upgrade to Windows 7 When it was released. When I upgraded to Win 7 it locked up all the time so I went back to Vista. & used it for years. Now that I have reformatted & upgraded to Win 7 I can't get anything to load to my GPS from Geocaching.com. I says "Garmin Communicator Not Detected. I have the latest Garmin Communicator installed & it recognizes my GPS. But every time I try to send a cache to my GPS geocaching.com still says it's there & wants to to reinstall it. But when I try to reinstall Garmin says I have the latest version. I tried the compatibly fix above & nothing has changed. I even tried using Google Chrome & still the same thing. Any suggestions? I'm going crazy here! Thanks!
  8. I am going to assume (you should include these items when asking for help) you are on a Windows machine, probably recently upgraded to 8. Go to the browser and set the back compatibility feature. Garmin communicator seems to have developed a habit of failing on newer windows machines.
  10. I'm having th same problem downloading to Garmin. I'm running Windows 8.1 with IE 11 and I;ve tried switching to Chrome and Firefox and nothing works. Going round in circles with Communicator Plugin. I have it - it's recognised but still won't operate. Any suggestions gratefully received.
  11. Well hi there! I can't get the geocaching.com website to transfer GPS files directly to my Garmin Oregon 600. On the other machine it works perfectly ( Win 7 ), other than Windows 8.1 they are using the same software. Garmin communicator 4.1.0.0 detects the device in Chrome. But when clicking the " send to GPS " link, a separate window opens only to show the licence agreement, the the Win7 computer would ask me what brand GPS I use (normal). After clicking "Agree" at the Licence agreement on the Win 8.1 machine, it simply doesn't do nothing. Any idea's? ( tried finding a compability mode as with the IE / win 8.1 problem, but couldn't find it ) Thanks! PS. While Groundspeak is at it, please add the Oregon 600/650 devices and the Sony Xperia Z series smartphone to the Geocaching device list? thanks!
  12. This morning (Feb 25) I cannot download to my GPS. As above I have downloaded the latest version of Communicator and checked that the USB software is up to date and it is. I then logged out, closed down the puter and switched off. Powered up again and still no go. I see from the Garmin website that IE is not supported. I cannot believe this. All this has been done with Windows 7 and Vista and IE. I also used Chrome and tried that buLost still no joy. Bit of a time consuming downer. I will set up Firefox and try again but what is going on? Edit - It works with Firefox. Lost a couple of hours caching time with this fiddling.
  13. Here's a workaround.. The F12/Emulation/Document mode/9 workaround is required on Garmin.com after their Communicator Plugin 4.1.0 is newly installed and then not detected. On Geocaching.com the small download box does not detect it and the workaround is again required. I noticed the problem after installing Windows 8.1, IE 11 on my 64 & 32 bit machines. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie11-iewindows8_1/garmin-communicator-plugin/7a1f16d5-81fc-47cd-a712-276e9bc37414?tm=1389212116543
  14. I keep trying to download geocaches to my Garmin eTrex 20. (Used to be able to do this without any problem). Now keep getting a message that I need to install the comunicator plug-in. I have - several times, plus re-booting each time. My laptop says its installed, but I still can't download. Have to keep entering co-ordinates manually which is a chore. I'm runnin Windows 8.1, but I;ve also tried on Windows 7 and get the same message.Anyone got any ideas?
  15. Wow this was a ROUGH problem. Garmin and Microsoft are not playing nice with each other. I have Windows 7 (64-bit) and IE 11. After a couple hours, I have my solution and the Garmin Communicator works. 1. I had accidently installed the 32-bit version of the Garmin Communicator. I un-installed it and installed the 64-bit version of the Garmin Communicator. 2. Added geocaching.com to the Compatibility View Settings in IE 11. 3. Logged out of geocaching.com and closed IE. 4. Re-opened IE and logged back into geocaching.com. 5. Everything works fine now. Maybe this will help someone.
  16. STOP. USING. INTERNET. EXPLORER. PERIOD. Can we pin a post with these instructions? -------------------------------- Ok, now that I've gotten my rant out of the way, I'm going to guess that you're a windows user and that you use Microsoft's hideously awful (and least secure of any browser) Internet Explorer. Might I offer some alternatives that have outperformed IE in just about every category of comparison since 2003. 1. Mozilla Firefox - still arguably the leader in the field. Good no matter what operating system you use. 2. Google Chrome - a worthy contender, also supported across platforms. 3. Safari - only if you've advanced beyond Windows into the Mac world. I'd still choose one of the two previous options. There's a known bug with the latest version of Internet Explorer (11?) that breaks the Garmin Communicator plugin. There is some fix out there that has you enable some compatibility mode, but why bother when you should be using any other web browser out there. Also, as a premium member, you shouldn't even be loading caches one at a time with the "Send to GPS" function. Pocket Queries are the wave of the future present past. You download a GPX file with up to 1000 cache listings and install it directly on your GPS as if it were mounted as a USB thumb drive. No extra software required. But I can understand the frustration of the communicator plugin not working. The plugin is useful on other sites such as Garmin Connect for uploading tracks directly from the GPS. I hope this helps, and if you still have problems, we'll continue the troubleshooting process.
  17. ok finally got my mitts on an etrex 20, after plenty of posting in these forums to help me make that decision; thanks all for your kind help.... now, a couple of things after having just tried it out; I might be missing something obvious but you guys are good for quick help: 1) when I click 'send to my gps' on a given cache listing, the page says 'sent' (though the etrex-20 says nothing, just stays on the USB logo, fine), but, then when I unplug it from the computer and turn it on, there is nothing in the waypoints for that cache (only the four default caches [garmin offices] are there), nor is it in the 'geocaching' icon; just says there are no caches loaded. when I resend the same cache, it asks me if I want to overwrite the one that is already in there, so it's obviously made it and I can't see it? when I go to the gpx folder on the etrex in windows explorer, the gpx for that listing IS there as well, so, not sure why I can't see it on the unit itself, ie. to select and navigate to it? 2) maybe similar issue; I opened an old gpx in easygps in windows, sent to etrex-20, said 'done', then when I turn it on (after disconnect from USB to computer), the track manager is empty; that is where I would expect to see it no? my garmin communicator plugin is up to date, as is my easygps, not that I think either of those are the culprit cos the cache actually did go from the cache webpage to the device (hence gpx in folder on device as seen in windows explorer) and the sample track said 'done' in easy gps. naturally I'm mystified... thanks all for any guidance (and there will be more Qs I'm sure), tr
  18. We have a Garmin 550T with an regional SD card in it. We also just updated our system to IE 11 and operating system to Windows 8.1. I have also verified that we are using the latest version of garmin communicator. When I go in to a cache, click the send to GPS the screen shows up showing that my GPS is recognized but the write button stays grayed out and won't let me send it to the GPX. I have spent hours trying to figure this out and the only thing that I can figure out is that it started when we did the upgrade to windows 8.1. Any one else have this problem and any suggestions on how to fix it?
  20. My wife's PC just quit, and I have another wit Windows 7. Hers was XP, I believe. Either way, I can't get the Garmin communicator plug in to download to my Windows 7. I've tried everything changing compatibility modes. Has anyone experienced this, and how are you getting around it? Is Garmin fixing the problem, as I've been unable to contact them? I would hate to think I have to change GPS devices to allow me to download caches. Thanks for any help.
  21. I have a Garmin 450. I have a new computer with Windows 7. I haven't been able to download any caches since I got the computer. I get the message that I need to download Garmin Communicator but when I try to do that, I get a message that says I already have the current Garmin Communicator. Does anyone have an idea of what I'm doing wrong?
  22. I tried today to load some new caches. I bought a new computer and when I updated to Windows 8.1 I could no longer load caches. The Send To Gps function would not work. It kept saying we did not have the Garmin Communicator plug-in. I installed it 4 times. I finally gave up and called Garmin and was told that IE11 does not support plug-ins. I then installed the plug-in while using Chrome and all is well again!
  23. Just got Windows 8 computer. I downloaded the Garmin Communicator from Garmin's website, but you may be able to click on the link on the window that pops up after you hit "send to GPS." Hit the Garmin tab first, then the link. On my old XP computer, I had to log out of the geocaching site, then back in. I don't recall if I had to do that with this one.....but I barely remember what breakfast tasted like today. Make sure your GPS is listed as your primary GPS in your profile also. Good luck!
  24. Answering my own question! Also, I hope, a note for those considering a Chromebook purchase. YES, a Chromebook CAN be used with a Garmin GPSr. BUT it's not as straight-forward as with a Windows PC or with a Mac. Individual caches can be downloaded by clicking on (GPX file) in a cache page. The file goes to DOWNLOADS. After attaching the GPSr to the Chromebook with USB cable you can cut/copy from the download folder then paste into the GPX folder of the Garmin unit. NOTE: there is no "Garmin Communicator" available to make it easier to go direct from Geocaching.com to the Garmin unit, but the above-mentioned procedure will get the data from web to handheld. I'll know soon whether Pocket Queries can be easily utilized. A word of caution -- after downloading gpx files to the Chromebook and transferring them to the GPSr, I'd recommend deleting them from the Chromebook. These devices have very limited storage and a Thumb-drive or SD card would be a far better way to save your downloads.
  25. Issues resolved. Garmin's updated communicator plugin 4.1 isn't compatible with Windows 7 Explorer 11. I don't know if the older plugin can be found for download anymore. The 4.1 update works with the Chrome browser, which I had to install, and now must use to access this site.
