  1. It might help if you mention what operating system you use, since if you haven't updated Windows nor its browsers in a few years, and Send To GPS works without extra tweaking, you may be OK for a while. Or in the case of a modern OS, if you've specifically set up Garmin Communicator so that Send To GPS is working on some other GPSr already, then, yes it should also work with the Magellan Explorist 400. If you're asking if Send To GPS will continue to be easy to keep functional, probably not. It currently requires special steps to keep it working in most modern web browsers if the browsers allow it at all. Looks like that will become even tougher in the future. You may also notice you don't see the "Send To GPS" button in as many places as you once did on Geocaching.com anymore. Might be a clue.

  3. I've written a simple guide (with pictures!) about doing a Pocket Query and transferring the files to a Garmin GPS. You don't need the communicator plugin nor any other software; just your GPS, a USB cable and a PC/Mac. The guide is written for Windows 7/8/10 but if you're using a Mac the process is much the same. It's a PDF document which Windows will open. You can download it from the bottom of this page on my resource site. 4. All of a sudden after the last Windows 10 update now none of my browsers will work with Garmin Communicator...now I can't download caches from my computer to my GPS. HELP!!!!!!!
  5. Hi, I'am new in geocaching. My Oregon has the latest firmware. I use the IE 11 from Windows 10, because Firefox and Chrome no longer supports Garmins Communicator Plugin. My problem: The GPX file never reach D:\garmin\gpx . The Plugin itself report no error. Bot "Devices" (internal and SD Card) are found. What wrong? "Download GPX" is grayed out. Sorry, but I don't want to buy a premium Membership for only one geocache.
  6. Puzzle caches can be easy to solve or really hard, but you'll never know till you read the description. If you can solve the puzzle to get the coordinates, then finding the actual cache container is pretty much like finding any other cache. As far as OSX support, there is a version of Garmin Communicator for OSX 10.4.11 or newer, which may allow downloading Geocaches directly to a Garmin GPS. (Have not used the OSX version but have used the Windows version.) They also have other programs for Macs: http://www8.garmin.com/macosx/index.jsp Haven't looked into Delorne/Magellen so I don't know how their OSX support is, but those three brands are the ones compatible with the "Send to GPS" feature on Geocaching.com. Garmin hiking type GPS units may not come with good maps installed, but there are free 3rd party maps available for Garmin GPS units. If you think you will spend the money for a Premium Membership here, then you might want to look at GPS units that support paperless Geocaching, since IMHO that's one of the big benefits of a premium membership. (Downloading the Geocache info, you don't just get the name/location but the description, hint, size/difficulty, and most recent logs.) On the other hand, assuming you have a decent data plan you can probably access that info either through the iPhone app or via the website. (You don't get access to Pocket Queries without a Premium Membership though, and that's another big feature.) As far as saving money goes, you could try looking for a used (or even refurbished) GPS as opposed to a new one, though I would stay away from the oldest models since I know some old GPS units used serial ports rather then USB. Edit: Oh, and while I don't know for sure, it sounds like updating firmware for Garmin units is possible on OSX. (Garmin Communicator's version notes mentions updating GPS unit software and BaseCamp for Mac mentions firmware updating. Which I think both mean the same thing.)
Open IE11 ( Start => All apps => Windows Accessories => Internet Explorer ) in Windows 10 3. Tools => Internet options => Security tab => Trusted sites ( groen vinkje ) => Sites 4. Klik en schakel "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone" check box UIT 5. Voeg www.geocaching.com toe als een trusted site 6. Close => OK => herstart de browser
  8. For the last couple of months Rosie29 and I have been unable to download caches from your site to our eTrex10 and etrex20 GPSr's. Problem probably started after we loaded an update to Windows. We both use a notebook, 2 different notebooks, with Windows 7 Starter. We both use Interenet Explorer. I did download Chrome but have the same problem. The Garmin Communicator Plugin is listed in our Programs. I can load caches to my GPS via my GSAK program so the plugin is on my computer. Your website is not detecting/ not compatible with the Garmin plugin. Please help!!
  9. I'm trying to update my oldest GPS, a Legend Cx. Garmin Communicator detects it, but the icon for the unit does not show up on my screen. I need to update the maps as well as the caches that are on it. Neither my Mac or PC (Windows 10) show the icon. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  10. The plugin is out http://developer.garmin.com/2007/08/03/com...ac-has-arrived/ Communicator Plugin 2.2.0 for Mac has arrived! Posted by dchow August 3rd, 2007 in General. Great news, Mac users! As promised, we’ve now made available the Communicator Plugin 2.2.0 for Mac. This plugin supports Firefox and Safari. Developers are advised to work with Firefox for this plugin. The plugin matches the features available in the Communicator Plugin 2.2.0.1 Windows beta version. Such features include course, workout, and user profile fitness transfers, as well as GPX data transfers to SD cards. Developers, we’ve provided a preview release of the Communicator API to support the Mac plugin. It is a snapshot release, so please play around with it and give us some feedback as we improve it for the official release.
  11. When I upgraded to Windows 10 I found Edge also did not support Garmin Communicator just like Chrome. Internet Explorer still supports it. It kind of hard to find. Located under: All Apps/Windows Accessories/Internet Explorer. Hope this helps.
  12. Communicator Plugin for Windows software version 2.9.2 http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3607 Added support for 2GB aviation data cards. Made GetBinaryFile function available to non-Garmin websites. Switching to indeterminate progress if the calculated progress is greater than 100%. 13. I'm having the same problem still. From the map, I get the message that the Garmin Communicator is not installed. I'm working with the latest version and it seems to work fine from the cache listing. I've deleted and reinstalled the communicator, and am working with Windows 8.1 and IE 11.0.8. I've attempted everything suggested above and gotten no joy. Anyone else have an idea or still having the same issue? Thanks,
  14. I used the Garmin Communicator earlier this year with Firefox. The GPS is a Garmin eTrex. It worked great. I do not know the version of Firefox that I was using, but have since moved up to 2.0 I had to reinstall Windows 2000 fixpak 4 and today wanted to load some waypoints. Got the eTrex connected and working with my mapping software, and using Firefox2.0.0.16 I downloaded and installed the Communicator, but the test page tells me the plugin is not installed, and I cannot move waypoints to my GPS the way I did before I had to reinstall Win2K. Does not work with IE 6.0 either, even tho I would prefer to avoid that if I can Frustrated :-) I wanted to go out today and show a friend how its done, but I cannot get the plugin to work, and I cannot find any information on how to troubleshoot or debug the problem. Basically, Garmin says it works, and six months ago, it worked fantastic. Today, on a new installed OS, it doesn't work. Can anyone point me to some real help, or give me suggestions as to how to make this work? I have the eTrex plugged into the serial port, and I also have a Serial/USB adaptor. It used to work with either one, and my mapping software finds the GPS on either one as well. Just need the communicator plugin to work so I can hit the road. Much obliged for any help or suggestions. John
  15. I have just gotten my Explorist GC from Magellan (previously I was using a Garmin cycling GPS). I downloaded the Magellan Communicator plugin, and I have also updated the software for the device itself. Three questions/concerns: 1. I want to get rid of the 999 best geocache sites from Magellan, as they clutter up the device. I have deleted the 999 geocache file from the device via my Windows XP machine, but I still see a lot of weird sites on the device I did not download from geocaching.com. What do I need to do to get rid of these not-very-useful freebies? (It looks like a lot of southern California sites.) 2. When I download a cache from geocaching.com, I keep getting asked if I want to download a newer version of Magellan Communicator. I have now downloaded Communicator three times, and I wonder what's up with that. 3. When I use my PC to look at the folder with the files I download, they don't seem to have names which correspond with the names of the caches -- just numbers. This makes it hard to tell what's what. I just want to clean out the device of everything except what I am downloading from GC.com. I'm sure this is osmething obvious, but it's got me stumped for the moment. Thanks, Waddy Petyona
  16. The Garmin Communicator plugin works fine in Firefox 38.0.5 (the current non-beta version), on both my Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machine. --Larry
  18. You can get it to work in Windows 10. It is discussed in other threads. Have a read and try some of the suggestions. Complaining here is a complete waste of time as this site has nothing to do with Garmin. You could try complaining on Garmin's forums. Anyway, if you really want to geocache, become a premium member. Pocket Queries are a much better way. I've never use communicator. This issue occurred on Sept 1, that's why a lot of you think it still works, but never mind. At least I can see how the forums are here to newcomers. Point taken, and I will move on elsewhere. As I stated earlier, Garmin appears to be absolutely clueless on what to do other than replace the device, which doesn't make any sense while it works with Safari. I only came here to see if geocaching.com members knew of a way around it. Obviously, without a paid third-party application, there doesn't appear to be a fix via the site.
  19. I have a Garmin Etrex. Often I have had to re-install the latest plugin from Garmin before it is detected on geocaching.com ( "Send to GPS" ) however now whatever I do I get these messages : "Communicator Plugin is properly installed and up to date, version >> 2.9.3.0. >> >> Garmin GPS device is NOT detected. To complete test, connect device and >> refresh" Of course this does not work. In Device Manager, Other Devices USB-SER! is shown together with a yellow exclamation mark. One opinion is it is Vista's fault ( " a failed product" ) & advises me to junk it for Windows 7 , another is to reset the firmware in the unit - apparently the manual would show how to do this, if I had it. I will try it with a computer using something other than Vista Others tell me to do exactly what I have already done - ensure plugin and drivers are installed. Anyone any suggestions ? Is it a Vista problem ? It worked ok on XP.
  20. I keep reading here that Firefox no longer supports plug-ins. I use Firefox 40.0.2 (the latest version as of this writing) on a Windows 7 Home Premium PC. I have the Garmin Communicator plug-in installed, and I've done nothing specific to enable it (as in changing some option to make it work). Just now, as a test, I was able to use the "Send to My GPS" button to download several caches to my Garmin Oregon 650. Either I have a miracle machine, or once again the folks at Garmin don't know what they're talking about. It wouldn't be the first time. --Larry
  21. The latest Communicator plug-in from Garmin and USB drivers are installed. Garmin's Communicator Web page says all is OK. The Geocaching.com function "Send to my GPS" (a Garmin) doesn't work with Firefox 13.0.1. It always says "The plug-in was not unlocked successfully". Have tested with both Windows Vista and Win7, same problem, but IE9 and Google Chrome both work fine, so the problem is only with FF. How can this be solved?
  22. You didn't say what operating system nor what web browser you tried. So I'll make a wild guess and assume it's the Windows 10 Garmin Communicator issue (which actually affects a bunch of updated web browsers, it's not exclusive to Win 10). Here's one of the discussions about it, which details a couple ways to keep "Send To GPS" working for now: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=334207&view=findpost&p=5538114
  23. Welcome to the frustrating world of Windows 8 but more specifically, Internet Explorer 11. I recently posted this problem (on this forum) after I purchased a new PC with windows 8 (and upgraded to 8.1). I had come from Windows 7 and never had an issue downloading caches on to my device. I now use two browsers. Chrome (Firefox works too) is my main browser when on the geocaching site as the Garmin communicator plug-in does not work with IE 11 and no doubt the Magellan plug-in is affected, too.
  24. As a Premium Member, you can run a PQ, load that data by drag 'n drop without having to go through a browser. Browsers are the *usual* problem that fail to recognize a "Communicator" -- Garmin or Magellan. If using Internet Express, check this fix: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view#ie=ie-11 Many folks switch browsers, Mozilla Firefox seems to the least troublesome. If using a Mac, there are other fixes. Helps to know when you ask, just what equipment you are using. "Same issue" is somewhat lacking in those terms. Note: I wouldn't pay much heed to the info in threads that are four years old. Cellar-scraping is not a good way to get up-to-date information. Will the GC work with windows 8? I never had a problem running Vista. I haven't cached in a couple years and was gonna today. Now, I can't get even get win8 to recognize my GC. Is it true that the GC is incompatible with win8? Thanks for any insight, I know this is an old thread.
  25. 1. USB sticks work just fine, Mouse / Keyboard work just fine, USB headset works just fine. When i plug in the Oregon in the USB port it is just not detected. There is not even a notification in system tray that tells me an unknown device was detected. It worked fine for a few hours, then it just stopped. All I did during that period is to upgrade to 4.8 with Garmin Express and test the "Send to GPS" option. I have plugged / unplugged it a few more times without a problem after that, so it might not be the upgrade to blame. At one point... it no longer worked. There is no USB "image" displayed on the device when it is plugged in, it is as if it would not be plugged in at all. Sometimes I get the message that the external power was disconnected but those are few and far between. 2. By windows (both 7 and 10). Not sure what the browser has to do with it unless you are talking about the Garmin Communicator plugin, in which case, no, not working anymore. 3. Saving to SD is not a problem, I got a lot of options... External Card reader for PC, internal for Laptop, or the less clean way of inserting the SD in my tablet and then back in the GPS unit after the gpx was downloaded. I have set the interface to both Serial and Spanner and nothing. I have hard reset it by holding the user and power buttons. I have also now come across the http://garminoregon6xx.wikispaces.com/ page with a few more solutions which I need to have a go at. It is frustrating that it is not working, but as long as I can still geocache with it and not just have an expensive paperweight, I'll be fine. Of-course it would be nice if I figure it out eventually and make it work as intended
