  1. What are you using to download the gpx file? There is a discussion about Windows 10, including people who are having trouble with the Garmin communicator in this thread.. Have you tried saving the gpx file directly to the garmin/gpx folder on your Colorado or sd card? If so, what have you tried? Does your computer recognize the colorado as a device or drive when it is plugged into a USB port?
  2. When I upgraded to Windows 10 I found Edge also did not support Garmin Communicator just like Chrome. Internet Explorer still supports it. It kind of hard to find. Located under: All Apps/Windows Accessories/Internet Explorer. Hope this helps.
  3. I use Firefox (currently at 39.0) on a Windows 7 SP1 PC. Garmin Communicator still works fine on this machine. As a test, I downloaded several GPX files to my Garmin Oregon 650 just now, and it worked fine. --Larry
  4. You can re-enable NPAPI support in Chrome for now. It will be permanently removed when Chrome 45 is released later this year. When Windows 10 comes out, the IE replacement in W10 will also prohibit Garmin communicator from being used. With the big guns ending support for NPAPI, it's time for plugin builders to move to the newer and more secure plugin models.
  5. First the things that work: My GPS Etrex Vista cx works fine and I can download .gpx files to it and have them recognised OK by the device. If I download files from geocaching.com I can see that it is recognised as a Garmin Etrex Vista Cx. I am able to put the GPS into mass storage mode and the device is seen as a removable drive on Windows 7. I can write and read to the 4GB removable SD disk OK. If I plug the GPS in via a USB to PC it can be seen in : Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers as Garmin USB GPS. Things I have done: I have used different USB ports and many different USB cables including one bought specifically for Garmin GPS. I have upgraded the drivers I have removed and reloaded the Garmin Communicator I have tried Garmin updater I have tried Garmin Express THE PROBLEM: I have never been able to have the Garmin directory structure shown in windows explorer. I wanted to be able to load another map, hence the 4GB memory card. By the way all the above applies to the original 64mb SD card. I cannot confirm whether I was ever able to see the file structure on Windows as I have never needed to up to now. I should say this is my first foray into playing with different maps, so I may be going about it the wrong way anyway. Any advice as to how I can get to the file structure so I can play with the maps would be very welcome. Thanks
  6. The Garmin Communicator plugin works fine in Firefox 38.0.5 (the current non-beta version), on both my Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machine. --Larry I've been using the plugin for several years across many versions of Firefox on Windows 7. Never had a problem. I used it on Friday evening and it worked as expected (FF 38.0.5, Garmin Communicator 4.2.0.0, Windows 7). @Jentel2012: Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin in either browser? I am afraid to uninstall it now less it breaks in IE. The Program applet in the control panel shows I have version 4.2 and both the 32 & 64bit versions. Maybe it has to do with Windows 8.1. I am just going to use IE just for this functionality even though I don't like IE.

  9. I am using Chrome 43 in Windows 8.1. When I click on "Send to my GPS", I get a "Garmin Communicator Plugin NOT detected". I installed the latest version and enabled NPAPI in Chrome. I get the same issue in Firefox but it works in IE. Anyone knows why it doesn't work in those two browsers?
  10. I have a Garmin Oregon 400t and use my laptop to transfer caches.I have a new laptop, runnng windows 8.When I "send to my Gps " I get the message that garmin communicator is not installed.I downloaded communicator and I am reliably informed it was successfully installed, however the cache still wont transferto my Gps. I had the same problem on my previous laptop, windows 7, and found I ould transfer using google as opposed to internet explorer.I have tried the same on this machine to no avail.Any ideas ? I normally select a cache, choose send to my Gps and I transfers, but,as I say, now the Gps is not found. On garmins website,my Gps is found if that means anything.
  11. All of a sudden my Garmin Communicator won't download cache information to any of my Garmin devices through Geocaching.com. It seems to work correctly in Windows, but will not work on the Mac with Firefox or Safari. I constantly get the following error when trying to connect. (SyntaxError: unterminated character class) Any ideas why this is happening? It just started this week and only seems to effect geocaching.com when using OS10.10.2. Other applications using Garmin Communicator seem to work OK. It's just Geocaching.com where I'm having the problem. I can't download any cache information to any of my Garmin devices. Any help will be appreciated. Any others having this problem? Ron...
  12. No, you don't have to pay for a membership to get the caches, but if you do much caching, you will eventually be glad to! I'm a premium member and forget exactly how to do it the way you are trying, but I'll try to answer. Maybe someone with better knowledge will come along soon. The best I can do is point you to this page for instructions for basic members. For Windows, you should have been prompted to download and install Garmin Communicator for your GPSr to communicate with the computer and accept the caches downloaded to it. This might help, but at the least it will bump the thread for notice from others more knowledgeable than me.
  13. As a Premium Member, you can run a PQ, load that data by drag 'n drop without having to go through a browser. Browsers are the *usual* problem that fail to recognize a "Communicator" -- Garmin or Magellan. If using Internet Express, check this fix: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view#ie=ie-11 Many folks switch browsers, Mozilla Firefox seems to the least troublesome. If using a Mac, there are other fixes. Helps to know when you ask, just what equipment you are using. "Same issue" is somewhat lacking in those terms. Note: I wouldn't pay much heed to the info in threads that are four years old. Cellar-scraping is not a good way to get up-to-date information. Will the GC work with windows 8? I never had a problem running Vista. I haven't cached in a couple years and was gonna today. Now, I can't get even get win8 to recognize my GC. Is it true that the GC is incompatible with win8? Thanks for any insight, I know this is an old thread.

  15. Computer? PC or Mac? Cannot, therefore will not address Mac... Your post does read as though you have connectivity... But, just to be sure: Boot up the PC. Do not activate a browser. Plug Garmin into PC, turn on Garmin. Connectivity would be revealed by an acknowledgement beep or such. You should then be able to access your Garmin as a removable drive via "Computer" or "My Computer" from the start menu. If using a [micro]SD card, you should be able to access that also, probably by clicking the [Garmin] drive icon -- it may show automatically. Note also, that upon turning on the Garmin, it (the Garmin) should tell you that the power source is EXTERNAL (your computer now powers the unit). If none of this happens, it is a connectivity problem. Usually the cord itself, but it could be internal to the Garmin. USB cords are cheap, fixing the unit itself may not be so. ----------- Fine. Vague. This could be a browser problem (compatibility), especially if using Internet Express (IE). If using IE, read this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view#ie=ie-11 . From that link you can add websites to a Compatibility List. Use the drop-down selection as it applies to your IE version. Add geocaching.com to the list. An alternative solution would be to switch to using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. This of course, is assuming that your problem is browser related. Lastly -- does warrant a mention -- You are a Premium Member. You should learn and use Pocket Queries. http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=118 With a PQ, you simply run the query and download the results, then drag 'n drop the downloaded files (up to 1,0000 geocaches 10X per day) to the unit. No browser involvement, no "Communicator" to mess with, etc. If you can see the [Garmin] drive as noted above, you can load the data.
  16. You need the usual plugins. Maybe you're missing the latest Java plugin. There's also a Garmin Communicator plugin, handy if you have a newer Garmin and wish to send Cache data directly to it. Basic members can send a "LOC" file. Here are some more you might look at. Some sites somewhere will complain if these aren't installed: http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/internet-explorer-plugins-and-windows-8.html
  17. 18. Probably nothing. Mine has been acting up lately (windows XP). The Magellan (and Garmin) communicator's seem to break often, and it's up to them (the GPS manufacturers) to fix them. And of course they have many Operating Systems and browsers to deal with. In the particular case of Magellan, they've pretty much given up on Geocaching, and are concentrating on the fitness watch market, as well as automotive systems. You can put the blame there on smartphone apps. Most recently with myself, I can't get it to work for crap on Firefox, my browser of choice, so I've resorted to Chrome. But I most definitely am getting .gpx files, and full paperless capability. I can't imagine why it's only giving you .loc's if you're a premium member.
  19. For the last couple of months Rosie29 and I have been unable to download caches from your site to our eTrex10 and etrex20 GPSr's. Problem probably started after we loaded an update to Windows. We both use a notebook, 2 different notebooks, with Windows 7 Starter. We both use Interenet Explorer. I did download Chrome but have the same problem. The Garmin Communicator Plugin is listed in our Programs. I can load caches to my GPS via my GSAK program so the plugin is on my computer. Your website is not detecting/ not compatible with the Garmin plugin. Please help!!
Download and install now Powered by Garmin Communicator Can't get it to run? Try installing the latest plugin here. wanneer ik dit doe en dan weer probeer krijg ik de melding weer. wij beschikken over Windows 8.2 en hebben ook via buroblad internet hebben het via allebei geprobeerd maar lukt steeds niet kan iemand mij helpen nu moet ik steeds alle coördinaten opschrijven en in toetsen.
  21. Need some techy advise. My laptop has stopped sending the caches to my Garmin Etrex. It says my Garmin Communicator Plugin is not detected. Even though it is there. I've downloaded again and again, and still won't run. I have a laptop that runs Windows 7. It's worked on there before. When I download the communicator it says that it sees my GPS, then I come back to the Geocache website and try to download a cache onto it, I get the same message. The GPS works fine on my work laptop and that's what I've been using, but I need it to work on my personal laptop. Any suggestions on what's going on? HELP
  22. Hello, I have a Garmin Etrex Venture HC. Using my DESKTOP computer, running Windows XP, I am able to send cache info to my GPS unit from the website using the "SEND TO MY GPS" button, works fine every time. My problem occurs when I try this from my LAPTOP running Windows 7. According to the Garmin Website I have the latest and most up to date Communicator plugin, it also recognizes my GPS unit, but every time I try to send cache info using "SEND TO MY GPS" geocaching.com gives me an error that says "Garmin Communicator Plugin NOT detected. Download and install now" I am using the same USB cable to plug into both computers so its not a cable issue. Am I missing something here? Do I need to reconfigure something in Windows 7? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
  23. There are two possibilities going on here: 1. You're using windows with Internet Explorer 8, which does not play well with the Garmin Communicator. If it's the case that the geocache files aren't on your GPS, try using a different browser. Chrome and Firefox are both better browsers anyway. Better yet, use Pocket Queries to load all the caches in the area and then you don't have to pick and choose. 2. The caches did load and they're too far away to show up in the list. Pan the map to the place you'll be going and they should show up. If they don't, see #1.
  24. I wanted to say something about the Magellan Explorist GC and the recent update, the Magellan Communicator for Geocaching.com, and Windows 8.1. None of them work. I got a Garmin Nuvi a few weeks ago and caches download to it just fine. When I try to download to the Magellan, nada. "Not recognized". When plugged into the USB, it comes up as a drive, but 8.1 says "insert a disk in the drive". Duh, there is data on it! I saw on another forum where a lady say she was putting a call into Micro$oft. (!) Perhaps she needs to call Donald Trump too. It is a problem with the software, not Windows 8.1. I was having this problem, and saw where all kinds of people were installing it with Windows 7, and I have a Vista machine (I LOVE Windows Vista!), and took the whole shootin' match over to it. The Explorist comes up as a drive, and shows me the contents of the "disk". Communicator installs quite nicely. I am in the process right now of installing the software update; it just finished and waiting to see what the GC does. It do what it do. Came up with all new software (2.15)!!! It is not a problem with the software, the device, the computer, or the operating system; it is that Magellan is too lazy (?) to update the software for Micro$oft's new operating system! Happy Caching Alex
  25. I'm having same problem - Windows 7, Garmin E10 From map "Send to GPS" tells me Garmin Communicator Plugin not installed. "Download and install now" gets Garmin telling me I have got the latest Communicator Plugin installed. On occasions, "Send to GPS" will then allow me the opportunity to agree with agreement but then just locks up....
