  1. This is the worse possible time for this problem to be happening as I just started my trip. My GPS handheld was working fine until I removed the AA batteries for charging. As soon as I reinserted the batteries, this problem started. My Garmin GPSMAP 66S suddenly become non-functional with the message "Updating GPS firmware" and going 0% then 1% (see attached screenshot) and the message disappearing and no GPS function. Unfortunately, I don't have a laptop/computer with me as I'm out of the country. I only have an Android and iPhone with me and the Garmin app installed. I don't know how else to troubleshoot and fix the GPS unit. I tried a hard reset and the problem didn't go away. My handheld is using the latest firmware. I think it's 2.70? I recalled updating it before I left for my trip. Help?
  3. Where do I download maps for Garmin? Anyone have the link?
  6. I have a Garmin Oregon 450 that came with a micro SD that was 1 GB and I have another that is 8 GB (class 10). When I plugged the Garmin into my computer, It did not show any more storage on the Garmin than it had before and it also showed a greyed-out F:/ drive that "Windows can't access" I have tried plugging it into all the ports on my computer, plus others, I have formatted the card twice, I updated the firmware and updated Garmin express as well. Can somebody point out what I'm doing wrong?
  7. Ive had two Garmin devices over the last ten years. The first one was a GPSMAP and the lastest was an Oregon 550. Both have failed the same way. (see attached photos of the Oregon) The rubber on/off button perished and eventually fell to bits exposing the microswitch inside. Ive not had it outside since I realised how exposed the electronics were and ive just sent an email to garmin asking if its fixable. Are there any decent alternatives to Garmin devices? I know they have a good name, but I just want to know what else people have used and not had any problems with.
  8. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/c/outdoor-recreation/handheld-hiking-gps/ - No Oregon's or Etrex 25/35 listed either as current. Also heard this on the Geo-Gearheads podcast that the Oregon's of all models were discontinued. Interesting, i thought the Oregon's were their best selling model for geocaching. (or just fewer and fewer people are using a dedicated GPSr)
  9. When sending navigation information from any geocaching app (Geocaching app, Adventure Lab app) I get the message "No Location Information Found In The Link Provided". This only started in the later half of 2023. It was working before this. I believe it may be due to these app sending only coordinates and not addresses. Has something changed?
  10. I got a 67i a few months ago and finally got around to actually caching this weekend. We did the Chehalis/Centralia Cache Machine, https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCAGZYJ_chehalis-centralia-cache-machine-dinner My GPS was connected to my phone so every time I found a cache it was auto logged "Submitted via Garmin Live Geocaching" to GC.com. Is there a way to either create a canned log to be uploaded or not automatically upload the logs. And now that all of my finds/DNFs have been uploaded it there a way to delete those logs so that I can log via GSAK like i normally do with for Cache Machines. Thanks Jeff-
  11. Hi, Could someone please tell me what's the largest capacity SD card an Oregon 450 will take? Thanks!
  12. I can see caches thanks to Bluetooth/WiFi from my phone, but what about when I have no reception? I tried to download one of my lists, it took forever before I gave up and canceled and it just created a bunch of unrelated waypoints. How do I actually get geocaches onto this thing for offline use?
  14. I was trying to get the old Montana 650t GPS charged up and connected, and everything was working until this morning when I noticed that the Power Button is missing. All I see now is a microswitch inside on the circuit board. Now I am wondering if I should get a Montana 700 or a GPSMap 67, since I have the iPhone 13 Pro.?? I could keep the GPSMap 64st, or is it worth it, to upgrade to GPSMap 67 with long battery life? No I see that the Montana 650t was from the Summer of 2011, and the GPSMap 64st was from 2014, so that one is supported with the latest firmware, to work with Garmin Explore App and website. P. S. - I have been a Very long time away from Geocaching, GPS units, and even lack of hiking. The Smartphone and Internet to blame.
  15. how i download Pocket Queries direct to garmin 64st
  16. Hi. Existing a garmin device that support add a longer text than "Found it"? Presets log which I always use to logging a geocache. And I can set this log in Garmin too. Thanks
  17. I have created and named a list that I can see in both the Geocache App and on Geocaching.com, I can also see the list exists on my Garmin 67i but when I press enter on the list the list is highlighted as not synced, when I enter the list it gives me the option to sync, when I press enter it seemingly starts to sync then on page stating Basic geocache details downloaded with continue highlighted at the bottom of the screen, when I then press enter it takes me back to the original list which states not synced and I have to start all over again and this then becomes a continuous loop, can anyone help me get out of this madhouse please ? If it helps I can download photos of each of the screens !
  18. Thinking of replacing my ancient nuvi with one of the new Garmin Drive series units. It looks like there are two apps that will do extra stuff with these units, but I'm not finding anything that shows the difference between the Garmin Smartphone Link app vs the Garmin Drive App. Anyone have experience with both or know of a comparison table/site?
  19. looking to purchase a used garmin oregon 550 but not sure if it is compatable with Garmin express, or if it is worth buying at all. Hope to hear what others have to say.
  20. Hello, I want to get into geocaching again :-) I am going to buy handheld gps - can you recommend a Garmin 750i or 67i? - also I am doing some Hiking too :-) Cheers and thx in advance for any answer. Torben
  21. I've been trying to add caches to my eTrex 30x but when I do, they don't show up in the GPX folder. Garmin Express even says the download was successful. So I have to download the GPX file and move it to the GPX folder manually. Is this a problem with the website, my unit, me or something else?
  22. I solved a puzzle cache that says you need CHIRP for the final. Do you need a gps or can you do it with a phone gps with an app?
  23. I am having a hard time with the Garmin Explore website. I can import a gpx file into the website, but I can not get the geocaches to show their names, only the GeoCode. Does anyone know what I am missing? Thanks in advance.
  24. A geocacher contacted me and told me the required answer (input, question requires and answer in text format) cannot be given, because the answer is too long. I don't have this problem when I test the cartridge. I use a smartphone. The geocacher is using a Garmin Oregon GPS. How many fields can the given answer be when playing a cartridge on a Garmin Oregon?
  25. GARMIN 67, 67i and Etrex SE Noticed that Garmin has introduced a new GPS, the 67 and 67i. They have also introduced an updated version of the basic yellow Etrex model. The new slogan is that Garmin takes you “deep into the woods” or words to that effect. Sounds great. I just hope Garmin brings me back out of the woods! Couple of observations on the new units: The 67i like the 66r is a fixed lithium battery rechargeable unit. It offers some very impressive run time of 180+hours in GPS mode and over 400hrs in expedition mode. Sounds great, but I still want to be able to plug in a battery. The need to be able to plug in a battery is hard wired into the DNA. The 67i has only five of the major satellite systems, while the 67 includes Glonass for a total of six. No reason given. No mention of loading compressed .ggz files, but I’m assuming they have the capability. Maps are TOPO. They offer various versions of Navigator, Marine, Hunting etc. at about $86 each. For $599.00 I think they should give you whatever maps you want. Now days, map data is no longer a proprietary commodity as the info is widely available. I have not heard why this GPSr is better than its predecessors? Is it faster, more reliable, antenna better or is the only change that it is now multi gnss (satellite systems)? Reach technology is not new anymore. Product support is a major part of any product release. How will Garmin take care of these units? Longer warranty, exchanges, refurbished units? The battery will eventually need to be replaced. Since this baby is locked up tight does that mean it is a throw away or is there a way to replace it and give it many more years of reliable service? The NUVI is a prime example of the battery failing in three or four years and the units practically being given away on Ebay. Next time they release a product that costs $600, they need to release the product support package/plans at the same time. What item would you buy and not know this information?? Last topic: The new Etrex SE. Same question as No 5. It has all six gnss systems, but still a non map background. It is still a basic Etrex or a featureless Etrex 22/32. I like Garmin and if I want to keep geocaching I don’t have a lot of choice. The above comments are my impressions after reading the new Garmin product advertisement.
