  1. You didn't say what software you were using, but I use the Mapsend Topo US with a Platinum and have been able put these files on a 256MB card and switch between them. I used a SD adapter, not a serial port upload: 19,650,044 az.img 24,780,742 ca-nw.img 30,365,882 ca-se.img 17,084,998 co.img 18,623,192 nm.img 23,944,064 nv.img 14,195,764 ut.img 7 File(s) 148,644,686 bytes
  2. I've got 4 set-up, all set up at different times. They range in number from 365 to 6000, & they all show up like clockwork. No problems whatsoever. Even after making modifications, they show up at the scheduled time & with all the caches included. "Gimpy" --KC2KNI--
  3. Okay okay, i get you guy's point... Besides I'm not sure what I would put in the cache anyways. Oh, and talking to these people would get you a number that you would use later on, the theatre is open 365 days a year, and its information that the theatre wants its employees to know... therefore every employee knows this number. Let me explain the whole theatre thing: I am a projectionist, I threaded and started the very first movie at this theatre when it opened (a year and a half ago). I thought it would be cool to include part of the adventure to go inside. Pacific theatres has this thing where it teaches its employees 5 practices to good community building. I thought it might be a good idea to have people quiz employees out of the blue. I was thinking about trying to have people ask how many practices there was, or what they were or something. Then with the next three clues get the numbers to a four digit code to open a gate that leads to a public ramp at the airport I fly out of. Emphasis on PUBLIC ramp. From there get the model of a seemingly abandoned cessna about 100 feet past the gate (152), divide or add or something this number by some constant that I gave.. Which would give missing coordinates to the cache. -=The Foods=- RaViN's Mexican Pizza -=The Foods=- RaViN ChIpOtLe http://thefoods.freeservers.com
  4. 365 as of today... september 2002 was probably around 300, i think... of course, more than half of that is at the 100 mile distance (north side of columbus, east side of toledo, southeast side of detroit, northwest side of the 'Burgh, and southeast side of Erie Cache well, and see ya round the bend...
  5. OK, here are the previous milestones. In some cases, the date may be off by a day or two, especially the first couple. Also, I check the number in the morning, so that's the date I give it even though it is actually updated some time the previous evening. 6. I started this hobby on last October, but I got my GPSr in my hands at halfway of November. By that time the first snow had already fallen here. I thought I could REALLY start seeking caches only when the snow starts to melt in April or so, but I had a nice surprise realizing that this can be a winter sport too. At least most caches here in Finland have been hidden in a way you can find them 365/12. - All you need is a sick mind and a healthy body. -
  7. Good Morning, Are the coordinates for the CVC Tag cache the coords that Short Circuit has posted? Congrats Pat on 365! Way to go........... Welcome new cachers! Cathy There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors.
  8. Last one I promiss. Can anyone tell im catching up? Congrats to Pat on 365! Now I'm going to bed. If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  9. Congrats. Pat, Good job hitting 365. Mike If it's got wing's, I can fly it!!
  10. Thanks Jaim. I had said back when I hit 200 that I wanted to find 365 by my one year anniversary (one a day). I was able to reach the goal today. My wife says put a coordinate on it and I'll find it.

Wonder if they would last 365 charges over an hours time? Actually, the 1 hr chargers are better for the life of NiCD & NiMH batteries. There are three types of chargers: 15-hour trickle chargers, those that stop by heat (cordless drill chargers), and "intelligent" 1 or 2 hour chargers. Battery's have a chemical that "cooks off" if overcharged/hot. If you use a 15-hr charger, you should be sure your batteries are fully discharged (BUT NOT TOO LOW) or you cook off more of that chemical on each charge. HOWEVER, never let the batteries get "too" low (under 1.1 volts or so) or you might be tossing it.. The chargers that stop via heat cook off less of that chemical than trickle-chargers, but do cook off a small amount each time. It's better to use intelligent chargers, which actually measures the voltage drop and stops charging even before there's much heat buildup. (The higher the milliamp rating, the less of that chemical and the less "robust" the batteries are.) NOTE: To keep your batteries running longest, never let them get too low. Remember this when you store them (if you store discharged rechargeables, they keep discharging and can't be charged later). (A note on cordless drill batteries, these are actually assemblies of multiple 1.5 volt batteries that can be dissassembled and resoldered/replaced in case you've "reversed" a cell.) See the rechargeable battery faq for more info (w/input from NASA scientists!) Hope this helps/saves $$, Randy

Steve Bukosky N9BGH Waukesha Wisconsin I've been usuing a one hour charger for about 10 months now and I still get good life out of my rechargables. I carry 3 or r pairs of charged batteries with me because I usually give a couple to the kids and always have a spare set for the gps. One charge usually last me at least a whole day (if not 2) of caching. I just can't find all the batteries I originally bought. It's hard to get them back from the kids after they die. george Pedal until your legs cramp up and then pedal some more.

(There seems to have been a bug, and I thought I fixed it in 0.1.27a, but if you have 27a, then I must have missed something more.)
  15. Actually, I didn't have EasyGPS on the computer since I deleted stuff before I upgraded the hard drive. Watcher refuses to actually SHOW any caches, but it reads 365, so there must be a bug in EasyGPS. I'll download it again. Found the problem: The Groundspeak link downloads v1.1.9, heck, even the "New User" link on EasyGPS.com downloads that version even though it says 1.2.2. It doesn't work. I had to select the "Get the Latest Version of EasyGPS" to get the right version and it appears to work just fine. [This message was edited by CreagerStone Family on January 26, 2003 at 02:21 AM.]
  16. Well, it was all new and exciting!!! I can remember the big rush seeing the gps ticking off the feet from miles to mere feet...and seeing the tupperware container up on Squak Mountain last day of Feb. 2002. Never look back and now at 365 finds. I videotaped the whole thing.
  17. Well, my first cache was Feb, 28, 2002. I should be over 400 by then...got 365 now. If I go to Bremerton hit 25-30 in a day, maybe 500 will be in reach by then. We'll see. Yeah, I'm addicted. I don't even fish any more it seems adn I'm an avid fisherman! I did go deer hunting last year, but of course, I made sure I found a few caches on the way and back.
  18. quote:Originally posted by Boogidy:This is truly an addiction Addiction? What are you talking about?!? (hmm.. let's see. In the last six months we've found 501 caches. Six months = 365/2 ~= 183. 501/183 = 2.73 (nearly 3) caches per day.) Okay, I see your point. But yes, it's a nice healthy addiction. --Marky "All of us get lost in the darkness, dreamers learn to steer with a backlit GPSr"
  19. Greetings everyone, I came up with an Idea today. We all know about "cache in Trash out" But how about this? Alot of us like the Urban Caches, They are easy to get too, and get frequented alot. As such perhaps in our respective cities we could set up slightly larger than usual caches, that are Deposit only type caches. My Idea is that We could call these "Can Caches" meaning that when you head over to them you would bring 1 or 2 canned foods with you, and Sign the logbook. then once a week or every 2 weeks the Cache Owner could collect the cans and donate them to their local food bank. This Way we could have fun and give back to the community at the same time. This way we could help the food banks all year long, and not just during the holiday season. After all Hunger is a problem 365 days a year. Think this is a good Idea?
  20. GeoTokens are simple trading items with the cachers unique logo, milestone caches, and other information on them. Spidertracks from Vernal, Ut makes up a batch for us as we need them ever since we crossed the 200 cache barrier. He numbers them for us and we leave them as a marker or trade item to place in a traditonal cache. Our next number to place is #365 for our 365th cache. If it is a virtual or locationaless cache, I keep them them and give them out to other new potential cachers as a way for the to get out information about the sport of geocaching. At this time they can not be tracked like a travel bug or a nut, but it is nice to know by E-mail where they may travel. If it is kept and collected for one own use, that is fine.

None plot to the area marked on the map. The stamp looks to be "32 JPH" but it returns nothing on a search at http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/datasheet.html >Personally Responsible for the Recovery of .00244% of the Benchmark Database!<--watch this number!
  22. I'm using CDs currently for longterm and zip200 disks for daily offsite storage of active work.. I'm planning to get a DVD burner for higher capacity storage (fewer discs to re-copy every 365 days. I'm also planning to get a firewire/usb2.0 expansion card, and a firewire chasis; this allows you to put like one of those 120gb hard drives in and then hotplug it on your system. So I can hotplug it without shutting down, copy *all* my files to it, then take it with me when I leave for work. In case of fire at home, my critters will be crispy, but my data will be safe. Card is about $99 (if you buy from OrangeLink) and iirc the chasis is about $60.
  23. Not all of it was spent on the area 51,,,The extra rule involving centuries is an additional correction to make up for the fact that one extra day every four years is slightly too much correction (0.25>0.24219). This scheme results in the vernal equinox gradually shifting its date between March 19 and 21, being shifted once every leap year, and then being abruptly shifted in non-leap centuries . In the Gregorian calendar, 97 years out of every 400 are leap years, giving the total number of days in 400 years as 400.365+100-3=146,097 The leap year was introduced in the Julian calendar in 46 BC. However, around 10 BC, it was found that the priests in charge of computing the calendar had been adding leap years every three years instead of the four decreed by Caesar (Vardi 1991, p. 239). As a result of this error, no more leap years were added until 8 AD. Leap years were therefore 45 BC, 42 BC, 39 BC, 36 BC, 33 BC, 30 BC, 27 BC, 24 BC, 21 BC, 18 BC, 15 BC, 12 BC, 9 BC, 8 AD, 12 AD, and every fourth year thereafter (Tøndering), until the Gregorian calendar was introduced (resulting in skipping three out of every four centuries). The UNIX command cal incorrectly lists 4 AD as a leap year (Vardi 1991). But some times it passes in your sleep... www.ManuelCasillas.com
  24. The saved daylight is kept at many secret locations thru out the United States. It does earn interest that is how we end up with leap years. Its sort of like vacation time if you don't use it you will lose it. So we cash in some extra every four years. As far as how much interest it is something like..."Since the tropical year is 365.242190 days long, a leap year must be added roughly once every four years (four times the fractional day gives 4*.0242190=0.968760=1). There is no penalty for cashing it in but it must be done by an act of congress unless the condition is such that National Security is at steak then the President can release the time for as much as 180 days before having to report to congress. Many say that there is no stop clause here so the President may after the first 180 days and reporting to congress execute an other order for an other 180 days. So it may continue over and over again. This has never been tested and probably would require a Supreme Court Ruling if ever challenged. Unless you are the President I see no way for you to release extra time while Geocaching. Sorry. I hope this answered your question. www.ManuelCasillas.com

Theirs is it is no cache 'cause they are located within another cache. It has been brought to my attention that URL works only for me. This is what you would find there: HOLD ~ Auntie Up Unknown Cache Size: Unknown by GypsyMoth [profile] This cache has not been approved yet. Once it is approved, it will be listed on the site. N 36° 46.099 W 115° 33.365 (WGS84) UTM: 11S E 628867 N 4070144 In Nevada, United States [state map] Hidden: 10/31/2002 Use waypoint: GCA2EA (what's this?) $200 within 150 miles in one of the first 100 The coordinates posted above are NOT the real coordinates for this cache. Everything pertaining to this cache will be found within a 150 mile radius of the coordinates! Some of you have noticed that GypsyMoth is routinely using decks of cards as her trade item. What she forgot to tell you is that ONE of those packs has a $100 bill tucked inside. Matter of fact, other poker packs have your first ante--usually a one or five, the odd ten or twenty and the odder Riyal, Quetzal or Kwacha. There are at least 50 caches in play from among the first 100 (traditional) caches GypsyMoth has found. Not all contain cash (Hey, this is Nevada and we gamble). Any money outside the box of cards was traded by someone else and does not count. You may already be a winner! Please log here where you found the playing cards and the amount of cash inside, if any. You can log notes for finds (and not founds) after your first. Thanks must also be given to those area cache hiders who have unknowingly allowed me the use of their caches. The coordinates used for this cache are on a military test site--you can expect to be arrested, if not bombed, if you try to go there. The difficulty rating reflects the need for research and multiple trips likely and is not a hint as to which is the actual location of the $100. May Lady Luck smile on you. Just don't let Kirk show you what he affectionately calls the 'Captain's Log'
