  1. If you live in or near Bellevue, you can help with this fun Travel Bug project. There will be approximately 200 new Travel Bugs launched over the next couple of months in Bellevue! The starting cache is The Sculpture Launcher, a simple offset cache. These Travel Bugs are works of public art created by local teens. When the cache is up, please come by and help get a Travel Bug started on its journey. The sculptural Travel Bugs were created using a variety of recycled materials as a teen project for the 2008 Bellevue Sculpture Exhibition. The theme of the exhibition is Sculpted Green. Many of the works to be on display at Bellevue City Hall and the Downtown Park from June 14 to Oct. 5 will relate sculpture to sustainability and provide artful inspiration for green living through their message and materials. Visit the second floor of City Hall to view an evolving exhibition of select Sculptural Travel Bugs. Each TB wants to travel throughout King County and visit a particular location. Please check the goal! Once that goal is reached, the TB wants to travel some more and return to The Sculpture Launcher geocache later in the summer. Please check for the return date!
  2. I am trying to figure out how you can put your lat/long into a Mio GPS. I am not familiar with this brand, but a friend of mine is asking me and I don't have the answer for her. Does anyone know how you can 1-put in your lat/long, and 2-download pocket queries or gpx or other files so that the little treasure boxes just show up and are in her favorites? Thanks for any help!!
  3. In a paperless NUVI caching experiment this weekend, I found that I can NEARLY do everything with the NUVI - awesome... I took both units out on a few caches and found out that the NUVI will put me RIGHT on the cache, while the Venture is marking me up to 60 feet off, even when the sky is clear and there are no obstructions... I'm wondering if this is something I can "correct" on the Venture, or is it the nature of the two types of receivers (old vs. new)?? Thanks in advance, Netfan
  4. So is there? I know different models have different features but will the average user/geocacher know the differece? also does the updates from garmin negate the difference?
  5. I'm thinking about purchasing a Oregon 200. I couldn't find very many reviews for them so if anyone has one or has heard anything about them I would appreciate any info.
  6. $40 shipped in CONUS GPS comes with direction sheets and a new set of batteries. email direct for fastest response k4rjj at bellsouth dot net
  7. I stepped up to a Garmin 60CX, so now my Magellan has to go. Unit is in excellent condition. No scratches on the face, and one tiny scratch on the body. I used it to get hooked on geocaching and found around 50 caches with it . I'm thinking $50 shipped. email me @ mrjohnnycakes at yahoo.com if interested
  8. Hi, im kinda new to geocaching but when i tried it i loved it instantly. Im gonna start up a geocachers club at my high school to get more people into geocaching. My dad has a GPS and he told me i need to buy one if i want one. so all i really have to work with is 70 dollars so if anyone out there is nice enough to offer me the magellan explorist 200 or 210 i promise it will be used all the time and thank you.
  9. Ive had a Colorado and a 60cx. I just bought TWO Nuvi 200 with the city navigator and it's given us wrong directions 3 times. I bought one for my sis, told her to go down this one street to a major street, but turned out being a dead end street. Out here in L.A. (gangland), dead end streets are no good. 2nd time was in downtown L.A. by the garment district, we punched in an address on my sister's nuvi and it didnt get us to the address, but a block away from it. Anyone not like or have any issues with it? I must say its out the box, so firmware/software/updates resolve this? THanks, guys.
  10. I have been using my nuvie 200 for the past couple of months and It sometimes gets confused.I usialy drive near to the cache location and then set it to pedestrian for the find. The unit will say location is 50 feet away and then a few steps later it will say 70 0r 100.I know this is one of the more basic and cheaper models available, also that no unit is one hundred percent acurate. It can also be difficult to tell which direction the unit wands me to walk in and seems to not always register when I turn with it.Any help,or tips on a upgrade model for a few more bucks?
  11. Hey all, I just got a Triton 200 for xmas..... I am new to this GPS stuff, but am fairly good with computers. I am running Vista x64, I have VantagePoint installed, and the correct connectivity selected on the Triton 200. My problem is that I can't get Windows to properly recognize the decive, and use/install the proper drivers. The device is picked up by windows, but no drivers can be found.... and of course Microsoft states that anything that doesn't work with their super compatible software must be defective and should be replaced. Idiots. Are there 64-bit drivers hidden somewhere... because I cant find any information on this issue at all... anywhere!! Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am getting rather frustrated at not being able to find any support on the Magellan site. Merry Xmas
  12. FS Magallen 200 With Base Map geart starter GPS .Like new shape.60.Shipped[/img]
  13. The site locked up on when I posted this one. I apologize for two posts, but since this one is empty, please disregard it.
  14. It would be nice to know how well this new gadget from Garmin performs. Battery time is said to be 16 hours. Is that for real? I understand the Colorado didn't perform as well as stated in the specifications regarding battery time. Garmin Oregon 200, 300, 400c, 400i and 400t, ny modell
  15. Only less than 300 replies on the UK forum that we will hit 200,000; who will post it? My money is on the Blorenges posting on this milestone. Who do you think will?
  16. Ran across another deal today -- act fast, it may be gone by this evening. This is the stripped model without the DEM shaded maps, wireless, compass and altimeter. Might be a good entry-level GPS for those who want a touch screen. They also had some deals on Oregon and Colorado units with the inland lakes and coastal waterways maps if anyone needs them.
  17. Well, i would think anyone in the world would have better ideas on what to look for then me, so, have at it! =D -Thanks in advance! Moonrakerone
  18. Is the Explorist 200 a good machine if you want to start geocaching but don't have a lot of money to spend. I can get it for $60 new in the box. If anyone has seen one or used one please let me know. A store is no longer carring them so they are on clearance.
  19. Hi all. I’m new here, but I did come across some info that might be of use to someone. I picked up a Magellan 200 dirt cheep and have been really happy with it. From all the logs I’ve read, this little unit seems to be as accurate as any. Well, it turns out that already everyone I know seems to want to borrow it and try geocaching. So I went back where I got it for a second unit, and ended up getting a comparable deal on the Garmin etrex personal navigator. The Garmin is supposed to have a couple of extra features (though I have yet to find them), but the first trip I tried to use it on it turned out to be a bit disappointing. It seams every tree I go under this unit looses signal, and every time it looses signal I have to tell it that it’s ok before it will try to find the signal again. I’m thinking I’ll be taking it back where I got it and see if I can’t pick up another Magellan 200. To be fair, the accuracy seems to match the 200 in the open, but so far I have spent a good amount of time looking for caches where the trees are.
  20. Hi, new to geocaching and need to buy a handheld. These two are similarly priced but which would be best for my new hobby? Can either be used to navigate in a car? Am UK based but will be visiting USA and Canada soon. Will the basemaps cover these areas or do I need to purchase more maps so I can hunt caches over the pond? Thanks Mike
  21. Anyone use this model?, if so what opinion do you have on it whilst using it for Geo-caching? What advantages/disadvantages would this unit have over a Etrex H? I currently have a nuvi 200 and want to try an Etrex H!
  22. I was wondering if you could load geocaches on this unit through the SD card slot and if so how hard would it be to get them to work . Thanks
  23. im a newbie when it comes to the whole gps thing, so what would you guys recommend as a reliable geocaching gps in the $100 to $200 price range thanks in advance
  24. My parents just gave me this unit for Christmas. Just went out to play with it on my first adventure and didn't find it. Guess I need a little practice reading the maps. At one time I was away from the "flag" on the map of the gps and it said I was within 30 feet of the coordinates. But yet the map on Geocaching.com shows the cache to be across the street. Hummm. Any help or hints on finding a cache would be great. Anyone else have a Garmin nuvi series system? The person at the store said a LOT of hunters and what not come in to get that particular model for finding their way in the woods.
  25. hi all, i'm looking to pick up GPSr for travel and geocaching, and i see that the nuvi 200 is $130 AR at office depot (decent deal.) before handing out the coin, i'd like to know if the device has a way to continuously update the current lat / long position as it is moving. i suspect that (perhaps by clicking on the car icon?) it can be made to display current lat / long position, but to get updates requires screen touches for refreshes. can anyone comment on this? and if the answer is "no, the device can't do this," is there a higher end nuvi that WILL continuously update lat / long somehow? thanks, al
