  3. By far this is one of the best camoed caches near me http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...17-c330d52a1487 . I almost steped on it that is how good it isI
  4. This doesnt have anything to do with geocaching but here it goes anyways, A few years back I and a group of friends went to Six Flags New England, while waiting in line for the Superman Ride I just happened to touch one of the pillars holding up the ride, and got an instant bad premonition about going on it. Instantly sent a shock wave of fear through my body, needless to say I left my friends in line and made a bee line for the exit. I tried to convince them to get out of line but they would budge. after wasting 45 Minn. would you? They asked me why they should even think about getting out of line, I told them there was a problem with the ride and if I got on it would happen with me on it. They all laughed at me and said see you later. The ride for them was OK . Well 2 weeks later I caught the news and the headline was Superman Ride CRACHES in terminal. what happened was that the brakes failed as the second train was coming into the loading area slammed into the first train and sent it up the ramp about 80 feet, that's not including the area it traveled before getting to the ramp. I wasnt afraid of the ride inpiticular just got a bad feeling about it. You see I used to be a ( Ride Jock ) at a traveling carnival, I set them up, ran them, and tore them down, So I learned to trust my instincts about rides and look for things when I got a bad feeling about them. My boss loved me in that since because, I would usually find problems before they happened. So now I have learned to trust my instincts. P.S. It works good on cops when there hiding to.
  5. I sent andrew a e-mail with some Questions about his artical and this is what he wrote back to me... Hey Gene, thanks so much for your email. Glad to hear you read (and enjoyed) my story. Let me see if I can address your thoughts. 1. Yes, the geocache I found was the "did someone call for an ambulance" cache. I didn't want to be too specific about the name or location, both because I didn't want to get bogged down in the details, and I also didn't want to make it too easy for readers to find! 2. I thought about the numbers thing as I was writing the story, and I certainly didn't mean to dismiss how much some other more prolific geocachers have done. I just used Goat's numbers as a sort of average, to give readers an idea of how much time can be spent on this. Throughout the article, it was important for me not only to write something that guys like you (who know a lot about this stuff) would understand, but also something that someone who has never even heard of geocaching would be entertained by, and maybe inspired by as well. 3. I actually had planned to write all about the different kinds of caches out there, including the historical ones. Rocking the Goat gave me a lot of information about those, and I had every intention of including them, but I was running out of room, and didn't want to mention all that without being able to fully explain it. 4. Good to know about the events you mentioned, we'll have to keep an eye out for them. Finally, I am absolutely thinking about becoming a geocacher. I was fascinated while writing the story, and can definitely see myself getting into it this summer. Thanks again for your note, hope I answered your questions! Have a good one. Best, Andy Merritt the event caches I was mostly refering to were C.I.T.O. events....
  6. now if i could onyl figure out how to put the pic. in with the topic? never mind i figured it out
  7. When I started my new job at an old hydro plant in Vermont and found out it was built in 1910 I thought this place has to have a B.M. somewhere on it. After telling my boss about it and that I would have to keep my eyes open for it he said don't bother I know where it is, It might be what you are looking for. As we toured the place he showed me what looked like a NGS benchmark, and at a quick glance i thought it was one. well a few days later I got a better look at it and It didnt look quite right, so i e-mailed artman and asked him about it and told him I would e-mail him again with a pic and better cords because I could not locate it on the web sight. this is what he wrote back to me ( Gene, I have no real info, but just a guess: the fact that it is stamped Supreme Court and VT-NH Line Marker suggests to me that there was some boundary dispute between the two states, a lawsuit was filed, it made its way to the Supreme Court, and the court ordered that the boundary be surveyed. After writing that I did a wee bit of Googling and found that was in fact the case.http://supreme.justia.com/us/290/579/case.html You can probably find a lot more info about this. I did some research a while back about the VA-MD boundary, which runs along the Virginia side of the Potomac River. It, too, was the subject of litigation, and I found a very nice old published volume in our local library that described the boundary, including all the monuments that were set at the time. I would imagine a similar document was created around 1934. Good find! And good luck! -Art- ) Thanks to Art I would have never found any of this info out on my own, mostly because I would have known where to look for it. The cords for this marker are near N42 46.356 W072 30.913 its the best I got because when I got near the power plant the GPS went nuts and gave me a +- of 103 ft at its best. Any one else ever find anything like this before?
  8. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...1a-2ad372e14f19 is nearby also. Im going to have to get the papper just to have the artical. there are 80 caches withen 10 mi. of zip 01201, witch is the zip for pittsfield where the B.E. is printed
  9. I had about 10 when i place my first cache. When I found a good location I e-mailed a fello geocacher gave him the cords and asked him to check it and see what he thought, he gave me the thumbs up. I wrote my listing and posted it to my admin. and he helped me fix things that were wrong with it. I wrote in the note thatthis was my first cache placment and if there was anything wrong to please help me fix it, and he did help.. I still contact my admin. with any cache questions that I may have. It must me that I am lucky that my admin can take the time to help and check that every thing looks good and is up to par.
  10. Godderd's Haven ( Haven= safe spot, Nutral, etc... )
  11. member only caches, if you want to put it out there. and im not a member yet and im sugesting this
  12. Usualy kids go out with there parents when geocaching, dont they? When my son is old enough to go out with me, I will teach him how to hunt thoes pesky little micros like any veteren canand when the time comes that he wants to place his first cache I will help him to Place, log, and to maintance on it. I don't see any reason that someone under 18 should not be able to place a cache as long as it is supervised. If there are problems with a cache placement or a violation wright to your admin.
  13. I dont think I could handle that pic. No pun intended
  14. According to his home page (Rocking the Goat) has 129 FTF out of 4237 finds.. and (fkrol) has a few to
  15. That is real easy to make... stick cut off about 1 inch from the end, drilled out, with 4 micro magnents to keep the top on. As for the finish I would presume that he used a saten finish, polly urithine to make it from rotting very fast. gloss and semi gloss will not look natural at all.
  16. I don't mean that I am going to dump caches out of my car but place odd ball caches in the area. It seams to me that it will by like a playground for me to try new and diffrent things for the local cachers. GC12P9H is a big hit so far, and I have one that will proabaly get me shot by them, becouse of the difficulty rating. It will be easy to get to, just not find.

  18. after 2 DNF's on a cache and the owner failed to reply back about it I used one of my life lines and e-mailed a friend and got a hint. He then went to the cache and checked it to make sure it was still there and told me a new hint becouse it was moved and with a +-9 putting me in the middle of a road with 16 ft to eithor side, There was something wrong with the cords. I will look a few times but not when the results lead me to the same conclusion each time.
  19. Well it is very surprising to see that there are a few people that cary firearmes out there, me personaly I dont have one yet but i do carry a very sharp sheet rock hammer and a pocket knife with me in the woods. Not so much woried about people as I am the bears up here as I do carry food with me sometimes.
  20. lets do it!!!!! erase everything, turn back time, destroy the world, yeahhhhh
  21. I'll send you the ones I use
  22. micros have there good and bad sides. I have hidden a micro in the forest nearby where I live. and the only reason for that is that fact that it is like a test subject for an identical one I want to place in a city enviroment. I havent had the money latly to produce good Quality cache containers so I have been reduced to micros for the time being. I have 4 micros and 2 regulars out and none of the micros have had complantes about them so far. I lie 1 has had a few D.N.F. on it but was later found with help, By me or others that have found it. Now on to the Question, I do not mind hunting Micros in city enviroments as long as the cords. and hints are very good. One that I am after curently has bafeled me alot and the cords put me in the middle of a busy road, with a +- of 9 feet with the curb being 16 feet away on eithor side. I e-mailed and posted the problem and it still got me no real help. I finally contacted a fello cacher that I know and he gave me a better hint, he then went to the cache site and found that it was no longer where it origianaly was and e-mailed me a new hint. In My opion if some one tells you that there might be a problem check it to see if they are right or leave a good hint. I enjoy the stelth But not the headache if there is a problem.
  23. historical caches, sienic vistas, joy in finding caches, C.I.T.O. events, thoes wackie caches that make it fun to hunt and hide them, hunting caches while in stelth mode ( makes me feal like James Bond, 007 )...
  24. when gas hits 50$ a gallon... tom cruse denounces Scientology... the internet craches and geocaching.com is gone... the wife finally hides my GPS... I find the Holy Grale... McDolalds goes out of busniess... All of these plus being dead
