  1. I'm thinking of something but you need to give me some time to find what I need. I will post it when it is ready to git the final touches.
  2. After reading up on the posts I am now a little concerned myself. I am writing up an article that I hope would appear each month. But after reading the post from Geocacher mag my concerns are that now there is no real articles, just submissions from geocachers about anything. If this is the case I don't want any involvement, that is not saying that I wont read some of the articles. I do not want to waist my time writing something that will not even be looked at. I would like to see a magazine that has some "meet on its bone" and not something like a log in a cache. Is this magazine going to be online or in print? haven't figured that one out yet either. Will it be free or paid subscription? the other thing that urkis me is the way you said this: "Unlike others, I am not looking for submissions or volunteers. We have enough content, stories and photos to keep us busy for more than a year. We are averaging 213 emails a day and the only "friction" to date is HERE ... on this forum. Why did I get an e-mail asking for help? Who is us? Is there a staff involved already? Will they have features in them? continuing stories? As the leader of this magazine, will you be the editor? If yes, your shadow would not be a shadow for long, the reason is, every newspaper and magazine I have ever read has an article somewhere in it (from the editor). Did you not plan on writing one? As an active member of Geocaching.com I have no problem catching slack from my piers about anything I write in these forums. There are some well known names in these forums that have been around a lot longer then you or I put together. I look forward to there comments, be it positive or negative. We need to learn from our elders, IE.. some of the original cachers. They have seen the game change with leaps and bounds since 2001. Please do not alienate them. On another note when you said quote: "I go through extensive training concerning child safety and my past hesitation was that my children are in my profile pics, but ... oh well, they are cachers too!" That is something you should have taken into consideration when taking on this task. There are always going to be F-ing losers out there, and I worry about that along with you. You can choose to keep your personal life in or out of geocaching as you do please. No one is asking you to bring them into any topic here in the forums. As you can tell most of the geocachers here know each other quite well and who's who when scrolling through the posts. Yes we all disagree about certain topics but we are all committed to one thing, Seeing Geocaching.com grow. And in this forum 98% want to see a magazine. I along with others want to see a magazine about geocaching, but don't want it to be one sided and all about the money. If Geocaching.com wanted to they could make it so everyone had to pay to play, and make there own magazine, and it would probably be a very good one at that. They have the resources and the advertisers in place and could easily find more if they chose to do so. They are a group of hard working volunteers and some paid I'm sure, that make this game possible for all of us for free. This post was not meant to through mud in you face, discredit your endeavors, or hope you fail. I just wanted to state my opinions on how I felt about your post. Please do not take this the wrong way. I hope that you will reply to mine and others Questions on how you will operate Geocacher Magazine. We all have suggestions about different things and hope to see in the magazine. We only want what is best for this game we love so much. Like I stated in the beginning of the topic "no one is right or wrong here, no fighting.
  3. look likes agents J&K found the cache and took it.
  4. Deafhunt: your request is a little vague. Please let others know what you are looking for in an avatar and a little about yourself. Are you easy going or a very stressed out person? place that here and then sit back and wait. some one will eventually notice it and then work on it to the best of there abilities.
  5. I know!!! isn't it cool
  6. Noooo, Its bring back the dead post day
  7. did any one find any of that Planet of the Apes swag. I only wear a pocket protector to protect my shirt
  8. Does any one know if something like this is still going on to view? would love to see what the chart looks like now.
  9. Since the last post was March 15, 2001 I presume that these guys were visited by agents J and K and neurolyzed into forgetting about the plan to place a cache at area 51.
  10. I have one that I started, to give you an idea on what I might be looking for... What I would like is for all the pillars to be in 3d and be in that half circle like I have them in, but rotated to look like they are wrapping around it and not just there. From the tops of the pillars I would like something like mini satellite dishes with signals coming out of them pointing down towards a person holding an external antenna GPS ( can be a stick figure or what might be better, would be signal the frog holding the GPS ) . And then have my name along the open area in front, flat and going with the curve. Would it be possible to place the geocaching logo flat in the circle? Like it would look, if it was on a rug. If not that's OK. That's my Idea. Thank you everyone who who might be able to help me with this idea I have. genegene
  11. told me that the server was down about 15 minn ago.. Please tell me that geocaching.com going down is not one of the signs of the apocalypse
  12. Sorry, let me clarify what I meant: After she gave birth!!! not while she was. I'm not that stupid, I don't want to DIE at the hands of a hormone crazed female. I don't want to think of the kind of pain she would lay down on me for leaving during the middle of birth
  13. Day 2: No gold? Then what are we looking for?
  14. Would i be a bad Geodaddy if on the day my son is born I left the hospital to go try and get a F.T.F.? If one came out that same day. Hes due in less then a week...
  15. The biggest problem with the game today? I maintain all of mine. None have been archived and none will be as long as I'm playing this game.. As to good Quality hiding places, do you mean like one of yours named Montreux Experiment ? Only one of mine is in question, and that is because the locals found that a quick bushwhack is better then taking the trail to it. I wanted them to see the dam at the parking cords. on the way to the cache. Even my first cache was well thought about. As for my latest ones, I have started to move towards the art of the camouflage. Why? It is nice to see something other then a pill bottle or cAMO can. Do I knock them? NO. everyone has there choice and no one can tell them what to do. Especially me. Have I written a nasty note about a cache? YES... was it needed? YES... Do I loose sleep over it? NO... My newest one was Intended for the uniqueness of it and what to expect in the future from me. So far the last 2 have been very well received. Here's a rundown of my caches, 2 are in historical locations that are very well liked, 1 is for a beginner, 1 is meant to bring your kids to a new park, 2 are fun caches, 1 was meant to see the dam. Like you said "It's a game", for what ever reasons someone has to place a cache, Its there business NOT YOURS. If you don't like the location don't bother with the cache. There has been a few that I have not gone near because of there proximity to homes, businesses, and not being stealthy enough, made a note in the log, and moved on with my life. If you see that a nubby has done a poor cache and you have a little more expertise in the matter, take him under your GeoWing and help HIM/HER to produce good quality caches. I personally asked my Administrator for help, along with a local cacher, and both were very helpful in all aspects of the hide. If you don't like the hide because of the location send a message asking the geocacher (why they chose this location for a cache?) you might be surprised on the answers you get.... GENEGENE
  16. one comming to Pittsfield Mass. USA 01201 this week
  17. I do think that the bookmarks should be separated into different categories, ie... countries, states/Provence's, towns. This way It might be easier to figure out where a GOECARD can get dropped and picked up near you. any thoughts?
  18. Well said, those who don't want to have fun with those who do, will still want to log the container as a find. And those who are out there doing the F.T.F. numbers game will be all over this the first day Its published. BACK OFF, NAY SAYERS. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE IDEA, FINE. WE DON'T NEED TO HEAR THE SAME REASONS OVER AND OVER AGEN. just my input
  19. I do think this is a repeat of another thread but I don't care . Well it all started about in July of 06, I was looking around E-bay for GPS units to use in the woods when I went for my walks. While looking around I saw a thread about this game called Geocaching and started to read it. About half way through that was probably a really cool game and had to try it. For the next 7 mo. I through the word out to the family that I really wanted a GPS unit and had found the one I wanted, to no avail. Then on my 30th B-day I was handed the money and told "go get it and leave us alone" so off I went the very next day. It was about 9:30 in the morning when I stopped into the store that I was going to buy it from and to my surprise they were closed for inventory, well now i was very Pi*# off. I dropped the misses off at work and headed of to the next store that carried GPS units. You have got to be kidding me, this is all you have?, I said to the sails clerk, "yup" he replied, so off I went to the next store. I'm going to the mall, I know there has to be a store that has one that I will want! I walk into the big electronics chain figuring that there is no way this store wont have one I just need to pick out witch one I want. Excuse me, can you tell me where the GPS units are? sure can there right over here! As we walked over to a little display and looked I said "No the handhelds" he proceeded to give me the dear in the head light look, "I'm sorry, we don't carry handhelds, they don't sell that good". I looked right at him and said "I wonder why? Do you think it has something to do with the fact that nobody thinks you guys wood carry them because of other stores in the chain not selling them" and turned around and walked away. Store #3 was all out of the one I wanted (Garmin GPSMap60) but was more then willing to sell me the upgraded version for 200 bucks more. Forget it I'll wait till tomorrow. The next day roles around and I get up and ready to go and am out the door at 9:15am in the morning headed to the store, today is the day. URGH they don't open up until 11am. "This day is not starting off good" along with some other choice words I udder under my breath. I do some other shopping in town while I'm waiting, and at 11:00am on the dot I'm at the door. I walk in and proceed to look at the GPS units again and tell the click that I had called a week ago and one of them recommended the Map60, He remembered me right away and proceeded to retrieve it off the shelf and go over it with me and tell me the different features and other Questions I had about it. Handed over the money and out I went with a new GPS. Get all the way home and what did I forget BATERIES !!!!! off to the store I go again. Now home, I read the manual and start to play. What the He** does this mean? I need to set this? do that ? URGH!!!! Cant I just turn this stupid thing on and find out where I am? The whole next day was spent figuring out the map60 and all the buttons. Now on the morning of march 1st, 2007 I download the cords to my first cache. Cool .3 mi. from my house. Cra*, It snowed again, there's like 2 ft. of snow out in them woods. I think there is a pair of kids plastic snow shoes in the shed. Well size 13 boots don't fit in size 8 fittings, D*m. Guess I'm going at this one by foot. Off I go through 2 to 3 1/2 ft. snow drifts, what the heck, no signal? Well I think I know where the container is, I'm going for it. Yes signal, hay that's not North, that way is, stupid GPS. Man this gear is heavy in the snow. Yes there it is, Almost there. WOAH!!! down I go on my butt, Fell over the rock wall that the cache was hidden in. Not Cool. Now to look for the container. Ha ha, Found it, my first cache. Did a little trading and signed the log. Now to back track out of here. Great!!! snowing again, just what I need. Well after Making the 45 minn. trek back to the house, I was tiered. Took off the wet and heavy clothes and jumped in the shower. Went online and filled out the log. A normal 10 minn. walk to the cache with out snow turned into 2 hour hike round trip. This year I swear that I'm going to get a pair of snow shoes. FIRST CACHE: The Easter Bunny Cache, GCTZF1 FOUND: March 1, 2007
  20. I cant say yet, what it is becous it just got published
  21. What is the Jeep Challenge anyways? do u win a jeep or something? Im a rookie to most of every one here and have no idea. what were they in the past?
  22. Me personally, I love the art of the hide.. I have 7 hidden and 76 finds. My hides are now getting more complex ie.. better camo. My last hide has gotten very good feedback and the one that just got published today should get even better feedback. I have gotten into the habit of wanting the best feedback possible, It makes me want to do the next one better then the last. But that is just me, I felt after about 10 finds, I was ready to try and hide my first cache and now I'm hooked on the hide. It would be nice to have people hide one after there first 10 just to get there goefeet wet but not mandatory.
  23. geonickels.com sight is down or something like that. went to it and its cumming up Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. that sucks
